After years of enduring cheap toaster ovens that performed poorly, I decided to buy the Krups digital convection toaster oven a few weeks ago. What a wonderful machine! It toasted fast and evenly, whether bread or bagels -- and it did a great job of quickly baking frozen entrees. I was so happy.
Happy, that is, until the toaster began reaching the end of its cycle and not turning off.
I went back and read the other handful of one-star reviews at amazon about this unit and came to the sad decision that it has fatal design flaws that a replacement unit might not fix -- ones that I'm not comfortable risking the safety of my family and house over.
So it will be returning and I'll be in the market once again for the illusive, perfect toaster oven.
To amazon's credit, their customer service was very gracious and interested in reporting the potential fire hazard.

Krups FBC2 6-Slice Digital Convection Toaster Oven, BlackI've been a homemaker for 34 years and three children and have gone through my share of toaster ovens. I bought this in ll/2006 and have never had a problem. I highly recommend this toaster oven.

We are extremely pleased with the Krups FBC2 convection,toaster oven we recently purchased from Amazon. The appliance is attractive, well made, and easy to use. Toasting and broiling produces excellent results. We have no complaints and would recommend it without reservations.
Dangerous and Big Product September 7, 2008

This "toaster" is giant and it won't turn off.
These two features combined created a scary situation in my home...twice...with the first one I rec'd, and the replacement a few weeks later.
I don't know what's up with this machine but for both units, on the first round of toast, steam poured out of the top vent, the timer counted down to zero, the beep sounded, and the heating elements stayed ON. No button pushing would turn it off, only unplugging the unit would turn it off. Just say Whoa.
Poor engineering September 6, 2008

I purchased the Krups Toaster/Oven FBC-2 from Kitchen Kapers, through Amazon.com. UPS delivered the unit in good condition. I was pleased with the design of the unit, and it worked well for four days. Then it failed in the manner reported by some other purchasers on the Amazon.com website. I could not turn off the unit without removing the plug from the power outlet. Then it simply would not power up.
I contacted Kitchen Kapers by email to report the problem. They responded on the first work day after my report. I was told that UPS would pick up the defective unit and my request for a refund would be honored. UPS picked up the item the following day and Amazon.com refunded my payment as soon as the unit arrived at Kitchen Kapers, which was three days later.
Needless to say, I was disappointed in the Krups toaster oven. It is obviously poorly engineered. This is not a new problem with this unit, so it is odd that Krups has not dealt with it by now.
But I must say that I am more than pleased with Kitchen Kapers. My customer service contact, Jackie Mastin, was superb. She often responded to my emails within 30 minutes with clear and friendly instructions. All companies would profit by adopting the quality of customer service demonstrated by Kitchen Kapers.
