Amazon.com Review The Vacu Vin system for food and wine storage is pretty amazing--while some wine lovers debate its merits for saving wine, you just can't argue about having extra-crisp cereal after a month of storage. Specially designed rubber seals are centered in the lid of each storage container--you fit the vacuum into the seal and pump the handle until it becomes too difficult to continue. At this point, all the air has been removed from the container and you can be assured that fresh food is well protected. The wine seals work in a similar manner, except the rubber seal fits directly into the bottle. Results here are mixed--some folks insist that there's no difference between the sealed bottle and one left open, while others insist that the sealed bottle provides a major improvement. Like so much with wine, it may be up to the individual palate--but no harm is ever done by testing. --Jill Lightner

great so far... January 25, 2008 Caffeinated Awesome product. Definately notice a difference in the freshness and shelf life of my coffee, tea, and junk foods. I bought two sets! Also comes with an extra stopper, so you can use it for wines as well...
Does not hold seal for more than a couple of days! December 4, 2007 Atomicwasteland (North Bethesda, MD USA) I love the Vacu-vin product in general. I have used several of the stoppers for keeping wines fresh and I was thrilled when I bought this set of Vacu-vin Food Savers. Everything looks well made, and looks like it should work, but unfortunately, it only works for a little while. Every single time I've used the product, the seal failed in a couple of days. (For a couple of weeks I put two containers on my counter and I resealed them daily to see if it was just a fluke, but unfortunately it happened every time -great for 24-48 hours, and then complete failure after that.) The first time it happened it almost caused a big problem: I had put flour in one of the containers and when I picked it up (from the top shelf) the top came right off leading me to almost dump the whole thing on the counter. This was really annoying. I thought it was a one time deal, and I took two containers out and I cleaned all the seals, and removed any possible seal contaminant, and I even wet the seals heavily with water -hoping to create a solid lock, but always with the same result. The seals do not hold for more than a couple of days, and without a physical lock on the container, the tops are not held on by anything more than suction. This means that you may be unpleasantly surprised when you try to pick it up after the seal has failed. I was really disappointed in this product! I thought I was really smart buying it, because how cool is a vacuum seal on your flours and your sugars and your cornstarches??? I would love to give the product another star, but I can't -because the primary purpose for which with product was purchased, was something in which it failed in doing -to create a vacuum that lasted. Final Note: I want to reiterate, however, how much I love the Vacu-vin original product -the stoppers that are used in resealing wine bottles. They really work and allow the wine to last days longer. But in the case of THOSE, the seal (on the top of the wine bottle) is only the size of a marble, while those on the Food Savers are the size of a softball...)
Vacu Vin Food Saver (Vacuum Container) September 27, 2007 James Kim (New York, NY United States) At the time of purchase, I was not so confident if the containers would hold vacuum (actually hold air out!) for extended time. However, based on my positive experience with Vacu Vin product in the past, I decided to give it a try. IT WORKS! Strawberries that used to go bag in a couple of days are now fresh in the container (inside refrigerator) for much longer. I am sure I will find more uses for the containers as time goes on.
Great tool for any pantry! July 6, 2007 CZ Foxx (San Jose, CA United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've enjoyed using this product with many different food products and extending the freshness and quality of these foods. I have also bought them as a gift for my sisters and mom.
Portable, affordable, and works great!!!!! February 7, 2007 BiG mojo (Los Angeles, California, USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Portable, affordable, and works great!!!!! A simple but effective design to last for years. I don't have to worry about some motor burning out or a short circuit or anything like that, especially after paying hundreds for one of those other machines. No electricity, which is good for the environment and my utility bills. Doesn't even require too much effort to pump out the air. Keeps my herbs fresher for longer without crushing them like the bag systems do. These jars are perfect for herb. I just wish they would make a jumbo jar for marinating lots of meat for a BBQ. The wine stoppers are great, and I hear you can drill jars at home and use the stoppers to convert them to vacuum seal. Best thing I ever bought!!!!
