Product Description
Press one of his 26 feet and listen as your caterpillar Alphabet Pal says the letter, makes the sound or says the color printed on that foot. He's loads of fun to learn with. Children can experiment with movement while seated, standing, or walking. Alphabet Pal provides children a fun opportunity for imaginative, self-directed play. Alphabet Pal measures 12 inches long.

Editorial Review
Here's a learning toy that offers kids a wonderful, interactive introduction to the world of letters, sounds, and colors. Alphabet Pal features several ways to play--pull the string and, antennae flashing, the jolly green caterpillar rolls happily along singing the alphabet song. When one of the caterpillar's 26 multicolored alphabet legs is pressed, kids hear the name of that color, letter, or letter sound depending on which mode they choose. Best of all, Alphabet Pal is a parent's friend, too--it's not too loud and turns off by itself when idle. It comes with three demonstration batteries, which should be replaced with regular AA batteries. Made of durable plastic, the toy is 7 by 11.5 inches long. --Marianne Painter

4 out of 5 stars Cute...but annoying   November 19, 2008
Lisa Scher (Chicago)
I really like the LeapFrog products, we have quite a few. But this caterpillar has an annoying voice. My son likes it for a few minutes, then even he gets sick of it and turns it off. I like the concept, but the voice could be better. And I don't understand why it plays Christmas music for some of the letters. The legs easy to push, and the pronunciations are great too. My son really likes the way he "walks", wobbling back and forth. We also bought one for our nephew who isn't talking. His mom says it has helped him with sounds and words, so that makes me feel better!

2 out of 5 stars Get a different ABC toy   November 18, 2008

My son seems to enjoy this toy okay but it drives me crazy. He did not use it when learning his ABCs; he preferred a toy with buttons easier to push and larger letters. But he picks this one up every now and then. It has a music mode that plays short songs but if you even barely touch another button it changes to a different song. The string is too short to pull; I am not sure of the purpose of it. I would get rid of this toy if my son didn't play with it at times. Overall I think it is annoying and would recommend getting a different ABC toy.

5 out of 5 stars Great learning toy   August 8, 2008

I bought this for my one year old, but my toddler likes it too. It is great at teaching colors, the alphabet, sounds, and playing fun music.

5 out of 5 stars Alphabet Pal review   March 14, 2008
mom of one (Beaverton, OR United States)
My son got this for his 1st birthday. He is now 18 months old. It hasn't kept his attention for long, but he plays with it for a little while almost every day. He likes to change the settings from saying the letters, to the letter sounds, to the colors, to music. The music setting keeps his attention the longest.

This toy has definitely gotten mixed reviews and I can see why. The voice is annoying (yet it doesn't bother me) and the string is too short for a walking toddler to pull. My son likes to pull the string just to hear the alphabet song.

I am happy he received this toy. He has had fun figuring out what all the different button do and shaking it by the string.

My husband and I have had fun trying to trick it into saying bad words, but we haven't found too many that work. So it's fun for all ages! :)

I would recommend this toy to anyone who isn't bothered easily by toys that make noise.

p.s. I think Oedipus is the little bug on Alphabet Pal's back.

My son was not yet 2 years old when I found him singing his ABCs along with this toy. It had not even occurred to me to teach him this yet, but apparently I didn't need to, because as much as he played with this toy, he had taught himself!
