Fully forged from a single piece of German high-carbon stainless steel, this 8-inch knife with its straight edge and deep serrations ("scallops" in knife-speak) is ideal for slicing crusty loaves of bread, with the serrations' points easily penetrating the hardest crusts. A bolster provides balance and safety, and additional balance and strength come from the full tang running through the handle, which is formed of hygienic, fiberglass-reinforced poly that won't crack, split, or chip and is attached to the tang with the traditional three rivets. The high-carbon stainless-steel blade takes and holds a fine edge and it won't rust, stain, or discolor. A quality knife like this should be hand washed.  Not enough rocker October 30, 2007

Neither my wife nor I really liked this knife. The knife doesn't really have any "rocker", making it hard to cut through the bottom crust of a tough-crusted loaf.
As we already had another bread knife (a Wusthof) without much rocker, we ended up
returning this one.
(Yes, we're probably just overly picky. The knife seemed to be quite well made,
especially considering the price. And it was definitely sharp.)

I purchased the Calphalon Traditional Cutlery 8-Inch Bread Knife a few weeks ago and I am extremely pleased with the product. It is a superior quality knife with just one slight drawback. The knife is so well made that it is a little onb the 'heavy' side to use. The blade is quite thick and this makes it slightly more difficult to use when cutting small items. Otherwise it is a very good product which I highly recommend.

Cuts bread from my machine very easily and doesn't make as much of a mess as other knives. Price is also very good for such a quality knife.
