Amazon.com Review
The power of steam meets the digital age in this electronically equipped iron from Black & Decker. Programmed to display temperature settings and signal the auto-off function, the iron's mini LCD monitor includes back lighting for easy viewing. It works in conjunction with the unit's SmarTemp system, an audible alert that sounds when the desired temperature is reached. If you feel comfortable using a standard dial setting, then this iron may be no more than a lateral move. But if you've always felt unsure launching into ironing without some feedback, this could be your machine.

The iron comes with a highly polished stainless-steel soleplate, a good choice for long life, easy glide, and corrosion-resistance. The water features include spray, variable steam, and surge to make your labor more efficient, and the vertical steam is handy for hanging garments and draperies. For safety and extra peace of mind, the iron automatically shuts off after 10 minutes of being idle. It also comes with an extra-long cord, a custom-fit measuring cup, and a self-cleaning anti-build-up system. Black & Decker includes a one-year warranty. --Emily Bedard

2 out of 5 stars Expected a longer life span   June 26, 2008
MB (New Jersey)
I purchased the iron based on Consumer Reports' top rating. It worked well enough for 3 1/2 years except for a problem that occurred when I changed ironing board covers - so much steam went through the new cover that the resulting condensation damaged the finish on my hardwood floor.

I'm discarding the iron today because of dark scale-like debris that falls out of it. The scale problem started a few months ago and has become intolerable - I spend more time cleaning it up than I do ironing.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome!   June 9, 2008

I did a lot of research prior to purchasing this iron and it was well worth it! This really is a great iron. I've never owned one that works this well...even with linen!

4 out of 5 stars Great iron for the price   June 5, 2008

This iron replaced an very old one that I had, also from B&D. This one is light weight and has very effective steam. Everyday-type wrinkles in cotton come out easily. Tough ones need more steam and pressure. One slight problem is that the steam comes out in large drops from time to time, but not often. Generally not a problem, but owners should be aware if ironing very delicate fabrics. Other than that, it's a great iron!

I love this iron. I had no idea how poorly my old one was until I started using this new purchase. I agree that it does use water quickly, I have to refill the water container more often but it is worth it for the wonderful steaming quality. My clothes actually look like I have pressed them now!

5 out of 5 stars former Rowenta owner   June 1, 2008

Used to own a very expensive Rowenta - had this iron for about a month now and love it so far. Gets plenty hot as my wife uses it for sewing.
