Amazon.com Review
A good starter machine for garment construction and mending, this sewing machine from Brother includes 25 built-in stitches. These range from zigzag to shell tuck to blind hem settings, and there's also an automatic four-step buttonhole function. In addition, a twin needle setting lets you sew a double line with two colors of thread for a smart decorative touch. The machine's design and features are straightforward and user-friendly, with some settings--stitch length and width--automatically set for simplified operation. It also sews in reverse and has dial-adjusted tension for tidy work. Sophisticated home tailors will find this machine too basic, but occasional and beginning sewers should get plenty of use from it and not much frustration.

Threading the machine is fairly simple, and winding the bobbin is speedy. The sewing machine's work surface switches from flat to free arm for cuffs and pant legs, and the interchangeable feet have a snap-on construction. An integrated storage area keeps extra feet, needles, and bobbins tidy. Built with a handle and a work light for ease and convenience, the sewing machine comes with a zipper foot, a buttonhole foot, a button-sewing foot, a set of needles, a twin needle, a set of bobbins, and a darning plate. Brother includes a 1-year warranty. --Emily Bedard

4 out of 5 stars Nice Sewing Machine for light work   July 15, 2008
DM (MD USA)
This is a nice sewing machine for day to day simple work. Hard to use on think cloth and beware, trying to use it on Jeans may break it or at least Jam it. But for light work, it works flawless. Have been using more than a year and still working. Good value for price paid.

5 out of 5 stars Great first sewing machine   July 5, 2007

I bought this sewing machine after doing much research on the internet and through my local Singer dealer. All the "toy" plastic machines are just that, toys. They do not hold up and end up frustrating the new sewer because they do not work long. This machine was easy to use and had all the basic stitches so that my 7 year old granddaughter was thrilled and able to thread it and sew right away! The only thing that these sewing machines made for children do is provide fun, easy sewing projects. With scrap fabric and a little bit of time, you can come up with these easy first projects. The machine is sturdy and could last her for years and years. It cost just a little more than the toys and I highly recommend!

1 out of 5 stars Fell Apart and no warranty support   May 16, 2007

I received an LS-2125 as a gift from my daughter and was initially very pleased. Until I tried to use it to sew a button hole in a shirt. I had to adjust the button hole stitch but when I touched the adjustment knob, it fell out of the machine (it is plastic. why companies use plastic for machined parts escapes me).

I contacted the company for warranty service and they informed me I would have to ship it in at my expense and pay for return shipping and any repair work that is performed...this is MORE than the cost of the machine.

I also got the distinct impression from both the customer service folks at Brother & the nearest authorized service center (which is over 70 miles away) that I got what I deserved for buying their low end machine. The service center owner said he would be glad to sell me a machine that is reliable and works...sooooo let this be a warning! Do Not Buy Brother Sewing Machines!

4 out of 5 stars A good starter machine   February 15, 2007

Pro: Works great, not too heavy, easy to use. Foot paddle for sewing speed could be better but still works good. Light turns on when you turn the machine on, I love that. I'm a beginner sewer and have already finished several projects with it (with good compliments). Should have an experienced person handy to help out though. I would have been able to operate it all the time otherwise.

Con: The base part doesn't slide opens easily. Thread breaks unless you get the settings just right. The reverse sewing feature makes the thread get stuck etc. Same tension setting doesn't always work for the same project. It can get annoying, I share with my neighbors and one of them got so mad one day he threw up his hands and went outside to smoke a cigarette. Manual not much help.
