Improvement, but Order 2 or 3 July 9, 2008 E. J Tastad (Marion, IA United States) This part is an improvement over the 10 or so year old mixer couplers, but it still fails after a few years (but it did last longer than the original). My point is, order 2 or 3 as shipping for me was the same on 1 as it was on 3. I agree, if you are careful, unplug the blender and you can jam the motor with a small screw driver and use a pair of adjustable pliers to take off the coupler. This is REVERSE threaded, clockwise to loosen. I decided to fix my Miserable KitchenAid, after reading dozens of other blender reviews and finding them to be even worse. I believe this rubber coupling serves to make the blender quieter, so the design trade off is shorter life for quieter operation. The blender should really come with a tool and a replacement one of these since they are inexpensive.
Great Money Saver! May 27, 2008 Georgianna Lafebre (Maine, USA) Excellent product. I was scared I'd break my Kitchen Aid so I didn't want to try and replace the part myself. However, the cost to fix it was almost as much as a new blender so I figured- if I was buying a new one anyway it wouldn't hurt to invest $6 to try and fix the old. It worked and it was EASY! They even send instructions. Seriously. If you are looking at this product, buy it. You won't regret it. In fact, buy two.
Do It Yourself Coupler Replacement May 25, 2008 John Harrison (Cincinnati) Product shipped and packed nicely. Installation instructions included. I saved alot of money by purchasing the product from Amazon and installing the coupler myself.
How to get the old one off March 28, 2008 J. Shaha 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Like another reviewer said, just unplug the blender, use a long screwdriver to stop the motor from turning, and then unscrew the coupling (in the opposite direction than you normally would). Took about 5 minutes... just had to find the right place to put the screwdriver to stop the motor.
Works great but too bad it's necessary... March 21, 2008 J. Bovee 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This works great as a replacement for a part that was improperly designed in the first place. Kitchenaid should give these away for free to fix their poor design. Directions can be found on the internet but basically it just screws on in the reverse-screw direction - just as the old one screws off. Unplug the blender and use a long screwdriver through the bottom vents to keep the motor from spinning. It's tricky to do but it works.
