Product Description The Mandoline is the tool for cutting that no food-lover should be without. Slice almost any kind of food in almost any thickness. Create straight or wavy cucumber slices, potato chips and citrus slices. Make perfect onion rings, carrot sticks and garnishes with the thin and thick julienne blades. Just turn the soft dial to select your slice thickness or julienne setting. The food holder has soft top for added comfort and snaps beneath body for storage. All blades are safely covered when not in use.

Truth in Naming: Good (Not Great) Grips Slicer December 27, 2008 K. R. Ashmore (Kansas City, MO USA) This is a pretty good product for the price, but as some other reviewers have noted, you have to work with it to avoid simply smashing up your food. This is because the blade isn't really as sharp as it could be, at least on the unit I got. I have to use significantly more force than I'd have expected when sliding food over the blades to avoid making a mess. However, once I figured that out and started hammering things onto it I got better results. Still, it gets the job done and when you're finished, it's very easy to take apart and clean. Clearance under the unit is adequate. All in all I'm happy with it, but it could have been a bit better.
Dull after moderate use December 25, 2008 Doug J. Glass (Bellbrook, OH) I cook for a moderate size church and throughout my cooking experiences I have used many different cooking gadgets. Although I think the mandolin slicer should be in everyone's kitchen, the OXO brand version does not live up to the reputation that has been achieved by the other OXO tools. The blade was almost dull when I took it out of the box and the julienne blade protrudes too far beyond the slicing platform.
Oxo should be ashamed ... December 3, 2008 D. Rhodes (Statesboro, GA USA) ...for putting out a product this bad under their name. I own five other Oxo tools and I like all of them. They are well designed to do their job and comfortable to use. I have yet to find a single task that this mandoline does well and few that it will do at all. I don't know if the blades are too dull or the slot too large, but it will not slice potatoes, so don't even think of taking on carrots or beets. This is the worst waste of money in my kitchen full of tools. The avocado slicer is more useful.
Flimsy October 30, 2008 W. Timm (Bolingbrook, IL USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
When I first saw this item, I would have never thought that the first thing that would happen is it would break. Don't get me wrong; it didn't break to the point that I couldn't use it (one of the lower plastic pivots busted, but it was still usable). Heck, I even sliced up a bunch of potatoes to make home made chips yesterday. Unfortunately, or maybe stupid of me, I didn't use the holder and wound up cutting my thumb on the VERY sharp blade. This slicer has a VERY sharp blade and continuously adjustable thickness setting until it gets to the shredder settings. I would have given it the highest rating were it not forr the fact that it broke the first time I used it.
Food crumbles instead of slicing October 20, 2008 Julie V. Corbett (Portland, OR USA) I purchased this product from Kitchen Kaboodle and was disappointed from first use. On a positive note, the blade adjustment is easy to use, push in and turn for different thickness cutting or to alternate between the thick and thin julienne. I also like the legs to give room beneath the device for product to fall. I tried to dice apples for a spice cake. The apples jammed and didn't slice all the way. A kindergartner with a butter knife might have done a neater job. The apples somtimes sliced, but the julienne blade didn't cut all the way through, so I had partially julienned, partially sliced apple hunks. Not attractive. Then, I tried to thinly slice apples. It mushed them until I made the slices thick enough that I could have easily cut them myself with a chef knife. The slices were uneven and the hand guard made it hard to position the apples to make consistent slices. Next, I tried onion slices...it crumbled the onion. I didn't know onions could crumble. I did get a few nice slices out of one onion, but they were interspersed with raggedy-edged slices. Finally, I tried a ripe tomato. No go. The blade didn't incise the skin, just bruised the fruit. I have friends who have had positive experiences with this slicer, but personally, I can't make it perform consistently enough to warrent the price. I am returning it and plan to try to the Swissmar V-Slicer instead.
