Powered by a 500-watt motor, this classic blender blends margaritas and smoothies, mixes soups and sauces, chops fruits and vegetables, grinds coffee beans and nuts, grates cheese and coconut, and crushes ice. The blender has a high speed and a low-speed pulse control, which can be held down for continuous action. Its 40-ounce, ribbed-and-tapered glass container fits onto Oster's distinctive beehive-shaped base, which is clad in lustrous chrome and outfitted with slip-proof rubber feet. Its stainless-steel blade-assembly removes for cleaning, and the container is calibrated in both ounces and liters. Fully assembled, the blender stands 16 inches high on a 7-1/4-inch-diameter base. With the exception of the dishwasher-safe glass container, all parts--including the plastic lid with its plastic 2-ounce measuring insert--require hand washing.  Loud and ineffective January 6, 2009

This blender has not worked for making sauces or soup. It will only blend the material at the very bottom. It's also extremely loud.

We received this blender as a wedding gift six years ago. We are heavy blender users. I drink smoothies a few times a week and used it to make salsa at least once a week. It was great for chopping ice and nuts too. Sadly the motor burned out yesterday.
Definitely get this blender!!!

Like other reviewers, I've burned through other blenders making smoothies, slushies, and protein drinks. This is the only one that hasn't worn out. It's not fancy, but it does what it's supposed to do: BLEND. I'm happy with it. It also fits well with a retro theme.
Simple but effective December 25, 2008

This blender is relatively simple with only 2 speeds (steady-on and pulse). This means that in terms of "functionality", it does not have as many bells and whistles as most blenders out there. However, in the majority of cases, the 2 speeds that are available will be all you need.
The great thing about this blender is that it is highly durable and easy to clean. It blends dressings, crushes ice, and chops food with ease.
It also is extremely attractive to look at and have had many guests comment on it. I highly recommend this to everyone looking for a blender.
excellent but NOISY November 25, 2008

this blender is heavy-duty and powerful and my only complaint is the noise. I have to cover my ears when I use it but it only takes up to 30 seconds to crush 6 ice cubes for my smoothies when my old one left big chunks of ice no matter how long I had it running. I recommend this blender above all others because it's sturdy, strong, and relatively small compared with other blenders in the same power range. buy this one and you will love it!
