Amazon.com Review Refined and classic in its styling, the gold-banded Eternal fine china from Lenox lends instant elegance to any dining occasion. The ivory pieces feature a 1/4-inch rim of 24-karat gold, a narrow interior band of gold, and a gleaming glaze overall. An indentation in the rim gives dimension to the gold's shine, and the interior band adds a touch of refinement. The teacup is banded at rim and foot, as well as along its delicately curved handle. Each five-piece setting includes a 10-3/8-inch dinner plate, an 8-1/8-inch salad/dessert plate, a 6-3/8-inch bread and butter plate, a 6-1/8-inch saucer, and a 6-ounce teacup. The pieces are safe for the dishwasher and are covered by a lifetime replacement policy. Lenox also makes gold-banded Eternal serveware and accessory pieces. --Emily Bedard What's in the Box 4 place settings. Each place setting consists of: 10-3/8-inch dinner plate; 8-1/8-inch salad/dessert plate; 6-3/8-inch bread/butter plate; 6-ounce teacup; 6-1/8-inch-saucer. 20 pieces total.

Not your Grandmother's Lenox... April 6, 2004 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I recommend caution when purchasing new china from Lenox. Their quality control standards are NOT what they used to be, while the prices have continued to climb. "First quality" items tend to have many of the problems of seconds--pitting in the glaze, uneven gold or platinum banding, discolored banding, etc.The so-called "lifetime replacement guarantee" from Lenox is virtually worthless: you must pay to ship the item to Lenox, and pay Lenox 50% of the full MSRP...and they do not guarantee that they will have the item you need. Lenox discontinues patterns at a very great rate (5-10 patterns per year, sometimes more), so the chances are slim that you will be able to replace or add to your set down the road. The only patterns with longevity are this one (Eternal--introduced in 1965), the sister pattern in platinum (Solitaire--also 1965), Autumn (which was introduced over 80 years ago, but has changed in shape and design detail/quality), and Westchester. If you really want Lenox, be certain that you have the option of returning any flawed pieces that you may receive, and that you will not be penalized for their mistakes (insist that they pay the return shipping, and look over replacements before sending them to you). If you are lucky enough to get true first quality, then you will have a lovely set of china. If you want quality without worries, take a look at Spode or Wedgwood (or if you can afford it, try Royal Copenhagen). Best of luck!
A wonderful collection of china September 26, 2003 I recently purchased this set and I am in love with it. I can't wait to used this in a formal setting. The eternal china is truly a beautiful pattern. I was even more convinced when I saw this amazing deal on Amazon[.com] for the free bowls with the set. The pictures really don't show the true beauty of this set. You won't regret getting this pattern.
Timeless and Classic August 25, 2003 I have owned my Eternal Lenox dinnerware for 8 years and I am still glad that I made the decision to choose a more classic and timless pattern. It looks great with any food and retains its warmth and beauty even after a lot of handwashing. I only wish that I could afford a service of 12!
