Pistoulet, inspired by the magical farmhouse of the same name in Jana Kolpen's book, The Secrets of Pistoulet, expresses the sunny hospitality of southern France. Crafted of durable stoneware, this three-quart rabbit casserole beautifully cooks and displays rabbit stew, French onion soup, potatoes au gratin, and much more, and complements Pfaltzgraff's complete line of Pistoulet dinnerware, introduced in 2002. In eye-catching robin's-egg blue, the sculpted rabbit lid is sure to elicit admiration at the table. The ears of the rabbit serve as a lid handle, while the domed shape sends flavorful moisture back into the base. The buttery yellow casserole base is delicately hand-painted with green leafy vines, tiny bunches of purple grapes, and a thin terracotta wave, while a band of soft green accents the rim and the two handles. Slight variations due to the hand-painting give each piece of Pistoulet a charm of its own. Measuring 11-3/4 by 8-1/4 by 7 inches with the lid on, the casserole is safe for the oven and microwave and retains heat efficiently. This is my newest addition to my growing Pistoulet collection. As usual it is a solidly built peice of stoneware--one that will last through many special family dinners. This is just so special--the lovely golden dish with the trademark Pistoulet vine of berries is as charming as the rest of the collection. But the brilliant addition of the little blue bunny on top makes this peice so sweet and truly a work of art. It has a prominent place in my china hutch and displays beautifully. When I have visitors they always remark on the bunny dish--it is just irresistable. It is very useful when serving a large group of people--the last dinner I filled it with mashed potatoes and the cover kept them warm througout the dinner. I have to say I am 100% pleased with the entire Pistoulet line. I am proud to have friends over for coffee and serve them with these lovely dishes. I feel lucky that this is *my* pattern, and am always checking back to see more of the ever growing collection.
