Product Description The combination of Philips unique brewing system and convenient coffee pods from Douwe Egberts ensures the best in flavor and aroma as every cup of coffee is freshly brewed. Douwe Egberts uses only 100% natural, premium coffee. The patented brewing system combines the perfect balance of water and coffee, while the 1450 watt boiler keeps the water at optimal temperature for brewing. This machine has created a coffee revolution in Europe, with over 5 million pieces sold! Unique to this machine is the velvety smooth frothy coffee layer it creates on top of each serving. See for yourself what has the sophisticated European coffee audience so excited.
Amazon.com Review Uniquely designed, this coffeemaker brews a single serving of fresh gourmet coffee at the touch of a button. Because the machine uses premeasured coffee pods, the system is hassle-free, is easy to clean, and guarantees a flavorful, fresh brew each time. Measuring 13-1/2 by 12 by 8-1/2 inches, the coffeemaker is shaped like a curved cylinder with a round base. Two pod holders are included: a shallow holder that holds one coffee pod for one cup, and a deeper filter that holds two pods for two cups (or one 8-ounce mug). After filling the removable reservoir with fresh water to the "max" line, the pods are inserted and the lid locked into place. A simple push of the "on/off" button and either of the one- or two-cup buttons starts the brewing process. Up to five 4-ounce cups can be brewed on one reservoir of water. Cups are not included, but almost any 4-ounce cup or 8-ounce mug will do the trick. All the removable parts--the pod holders, reservoir, coffee spout, plastic drip tray, and metal cup tray--are dishwasher-safe. The coffeemaker carries a two-year limited warranty and a variety of coffee pods are available separately. Also, Senseo was awarded the ChefsBest award for best performing single-serve coffee appliance. The ChefsBest Award for Performance is awarded to the brand rated highest overall among leading brands by independent professional chefs. --Ann Bieri From the Manufacturer | The Senseo coffeemaker combines an integrated brewing system from Philips Electronics with high quality coffee pods from Sara Lee's Douwe Egberts brand, one of Europe's premiere coffee brands for more than 250 years, to create a perfect cup of coffee. The result of over 7 years of research and development, this coffeemaker brews a consistent, balanced cup of coffee each time with a unique frothy coffee layer. Brewing a sensational cup of fresh, gourmet coffee every time, at the touch of a button, the Senseo is perfect for coffee lovers of all varieties. The Senseo's mild pressure system heats water to 205 degrees fahrenheit in a boiler consistently every time. Via the mild pressure system, the heated water is forced through the machine and is evenly distributed over the pre-measured coffee pod(s.) Exiting through a pinhole in the pod tray, the newly brewed Senseo coffee is projected into the base of the patented "frothing chamber" where it is lightly aerated to produce the frothy coffee layer. The machine brews at 1.2 bars. Espresso machines typically brew at 9 bars or higher and drip brewers do not use pressure. The machine then distributes either individual or double servings of gourmet Senseo coffee simultaneously--the whole process taking on average only 45 seconds. | | Easy to Use, Flavorful Results | The Senseo is simple to use--start by filling the handy removable reservoir up to the "max" line. Then, insert the pods you are using, and lock the lid into place. Next, push the "on/off" button and the brewing process begins with either one or two cups. You can brew up to five 4-ounce cups on a single reservoir of water. To make clean up easy, the removable parts, including pod holders, reservoir, coffee spout, plastic drip tray, and metal cup tray, are dishwasher-safe. Senseo offers a varied selection of blends and flavors. In addition to the first four original blends, Mild, Medium, Dark, and Decaffeinated, you can also choose from Paris Vanilla Bistro, Killarney Irish Creamery, Vienna Hazelnut Waltz, Senseo Sumatra, and Senseo Cappuccino. Senseo Cappuccino`s specially designed pod contains premium coffee with a separate layer of creamer housed in an innovative "honeycomb" to ensure it blends evenly with the coffee. The result is an extra luxurious cappuccino, at the touch of a button, with no extra steps involved. | | Senseo Features - The first single-serve coffee system that delivers a fresh, consistent cup of gourmet coffee in under a minute

Good but could be better August 22, 2008 P. Glithero (Chicago) I like the ease of use but would like to get better tea selection and larger cups of water each time. Overall though I like and will continue to use it for the price.
Leaks all over the place! August 18, 2008 Tom DiMarco (Baltimore, MD USA) This thing leaks all over the counter top. Apparently, others have had the same problem. Avoid this coffee maker!Senseo HD7810/65 1450-Watt Single-Serve Coffeemaker, Black
Eh - not the best - but sure is convenient August 1, 2008 H. Sapiens (Sacramento, CA United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am a coffee addict - I'll admit it. I own more coffee makers/presses/ espresso machines/ grinders than I care to admit here. This was purchased for me as a Christmas gift one year ago (I received 3 coffee makers from various people that year). This has since gone to work with me. Pros: Brews fast Pods are cheap, easy to find, not proprietary only (e.g. Tassimo) Tons of pod choices Pods are easy to store in canisters, ziploc bags, wherever Super convenient Compact design/sleek/unobtrusive Not too messy, not much to clean/maintain Cons: Leaks (if you don't get the pod just so) Coffee quality is on par with Folger's - it's not Peets, folks Doesn't do teas well (coffee taste transfers, this is not really a fair con since it is not marketed to do so) Poor reservoir capacity - must re-fill every two cups of coffee (my cups are always with the double pod button - so every 4 pods worth) Loud (relative to any other coffee maker I own) Takes quite a while to heat up (relative to Tassimo) It boils down to - I would not drink this at home, but It sure gets me through the afternoon at work without having to pay the $2 they want for a cup of standard coffee here. It's a 3 star for coffee quality, but a 4 star for design. The Sumatra and French Vanilla (Senseo brand) are both okay. The senseo Barista Blends are horrible and overpriced. I would recommend this to someone who wants something quick and easy for work or maybe in the bedroom. I could see putting this on my nightstand (now that would be pretty sad).
Not for everyone July 25, 2008 L. Strawn (Portland, OR United States) I love coffee. I home-roast, and have a nice collection of various coffee brewing tools- moka pots, presses, and a few espresso machines and grinders. What drew me to the Senseo was the pressurized brewing system, the various third party refillable pod options available, and the many positive reviews coupled with my own curiosity. I also like to get good value for my hard-earned dollar, and I was fortunate to come across the "Share Senseo" program, ran by the parent company Sara Lee, and bought this machine for $15, the cost of shipping. Pretty cool, I thought. The machine arrived in just a few days, and came with a variety pack of pods. A few words about the pods... as a home-roaster, I am used to really fresh coffee- as I expected, the pods smelled faintly stale, right out of the package, and I won't be buying any of those in the future. Another thing about the pods- one pod makes a 4oz "serving"- who on earth only drinks half a cup of coffee? I see this as a maketing tool to get the consumer to buy more pods, hence extracting more money out of your wallet. Just my opinion. The machine will be fun to use on the weekends, since it only produces a maximum of 8 ounces at a time. I take a 20oz travel mug to work, in addition to the cup I drink before I leave the house. Using the Senseo would mean running two 8oz plus a 4oz cycle for my travel mug alone- not very practical when my large coffee press does the job nicely. I think this machine is a good option for someone who will be using the pods, to keep in their private office- in this setting, I would also buy the large water tank- (shame on Senseo for shipping these with such a small tank, then selling the large tank for $20, again extracting more $$$). For myself, I would not pay full retail for one of these, which is why I only bought one when I found it for $15. Keep in mind that for $30 you could buy a Bodum New Kenya 34-Ounce Coffee Press, Black, and a Proctor Silex K2070 1-Quart Automatic Electric Kettle, White right here on Amazon- just add some quality, fresh ground beans and you'll have a real cup of coffee.
Used every day for over 3 years! July 22, 2008 Spyscience (seattle, wa) What's not to love about this machine. Sure I thought the coffee was weak when I first got it. That is until the Sumatra pods came out. Very tasty, quick fix. The use of the machine and it's ease of cleaning and use make it one of the best. The Dutch know their coffee that is for sure.
