Product Description Lots of style and grand technology have been added to European style coffeemakers. But what about those of us who enjoy a great cup of (what Europeans call) American coffee? The Capresso MT-500-Plus coffee maker celebrates the glory and taste of American coffee with this precise and stylish drip coffee maker. The MT500 Plus Coffee Maker is constructed from high-gloss aluminum alloy, which is specially designed to hide dirty fingerprints and sustain its shiny luster. This coffee machine comes with a 10-cup stainless steel insulated thermal carafe, which keeps coffee warm for several hours. It also features a smooth touchpad control panel, a digital clock/timer that lets you preprogram your desired brewing time, a charcoal water filter to remove chlorine and impurities (LED indicator lights when it's time to change filter) , auto shut-off and a wonderful pause-to-serve function so that you can grab a cup of coffee mid-brew! In addition, there's a permanent gold-tone filter that is easy to clean and convenient cord storage. You enjoy coffee and it's time for American coffee to ascend to the grade of serious pleasure. It's in the brew and the MT500-Plus brews delicious coffee. And you deserve the best! Drip stop allows you to pour a cup while brewing. Charcoal water filter removes up to 83% chlorine. Electronic filter indicator shows when to replace the charcoal filter. 24-hour programmable clock/timer with easy to read LED display. Special settings maintains aroma when brewing only 3-5 cups. Permanent GoldTone filter is easy to use and easy to clean. Safety auto shut-off after brewing. Water level indicator makes filling the right amount of water easy. Concealed cord storage lets you extend just the amount of cord you need.
Amazon.com Review Employing a stainless-steel vacuum carafe instead of a warming plate, this coffeemaker brews up to 10 cups in under eight minutes for maximum flavor and aroma, and the carafe then keeps the coffee hot for several hours. The carafe prevents coffee from turning bitter, as it can when sitting on a warming plate, and doesn't have to remain with the machine for coffee to stay hot. The machine also offers a setting for brewing three to five cups without diluting the flavor or aroma. The unit's charcoal water filter removes up to 83 percent of the chlorine in tap water, and its electronic indicator shows when the water filter needs replacing. To reduce calcification, Capresso's stainless-steel ThermoBlock system prevents water from contacting aluminum inside the machine. For added convenience, the coffeemaker's digital, programmable, 24-hour clock/timer makes it possible to have coffee ready in the morning, while its brew-pause function allows for pouring a cup midbrew. Other useful features include a handy side panel with easy-access soft-touch controls, an illuminated LED display, a drip-free spout, a permanent Gold Tone filter, automatic shutoff after brewing, an external water-level indicator, and concealed cord storage. Made of high-gloss aluminum alloy with black, plastic accents, the coffeemaker measures 9-3/4 by 10 by 13-3/4 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

Big Disappointment January 9, 2009 Stan Rosen (Silver Spring, MD) After having two $150.00 coffee makers breakdown after about 2 years of use each, I was in search for something a little better. The Capresso MT500 at $189.00 was immediately inferior to what I had in the past; and, I am returning it. The coffee picks up a plastic smell from the hot water and the carafe does not ever pour properly. Enough said. There does not seem to be a coffee maker that approaches professional grade for less than $900.00; and, this means you are buying a combo espresso, coffee, latte, grinder combo. Will somebody make a commercial grade coffee maker in the $300.00 range, PLEASE?!
Buyer beware! Weak coffee January 4, 2009 Tom Mott (Culver City, CA USA) After reading all the positive reviews, I just had to get one of these. One week later, I'm returnng it. I'm guessing I got a defective machine, since this many people can't be wrong... I simply cannot get it to brew a "normal" cup of coffee: I'm not looking for Peet's quality or even Dunkin' Donuts. Just a passable cup of coffee. I've read through the manual several times (and c'mon, it's not rocket science: everyone knows how to use an automatic drip coffeemaker). I've fiddled with finer grinds; switching filters; doubling the amount of coffee... but no matter I do I end up with an extremely weak cup. And it's not like I'm a coffee snob, but the coffee this machine delivers is more like brown-tinted hot water than coffee. When I followed the instructions and brewed 1 scoop of medium grind per cup, it came out very very week. (You could *see* it as you pour: it looked like a very strong cup of tea, not coffee.) By "cup" I'm referring to numbers on the side of the machine, which presumably are 4-5 ounce servings. So I tried using heaping scoops: still weak. Then I switched to a darker roast and a finee grind: still weak. Then I tried two scoops of fine grind per cup and finally got something approaching a regular cup of coffee. But that just doesn't make sense: if I wanted to make 10 cups of coffee I would have to use 20 scoops, and the manual says to never put more than 12-14 scoops in the filter. So clearly something's wrong. Over at coffeegeek.com there are a couple discussions about this topic, so it appears that maybe 3-4 people out of 100 have a problem with their machine brewing weak coffee. Perhaps the water isn't dispersing properly over all the grounds; or perhaps it's not getting to the advertised 200-degree temperature. I think it brews too quickly: it brews 6 cups in 5 minutes: it looks like the water just burrows straight through the center of the grinds instead of spending sometime in the filter basket actually making coffee. Whatever the problem is, it's really aggravating to finally spend $$$ on a premium machine and have it end up being a piece of junk. I've owned a bunch of different automatic drip coffeemakers over the years (replaced when the glass carafe broke) and this is the first time I've ever had trouble brewing a decent cup. Perhaps it's unfair of me to give a bad review if it's truly a defective unit. But when they charge $189 for a coffeemaker, they need to get it right the first time. Mainly, I wanted to post this review so that if someone else has the same problem, they won't think they're crazy! I've been tearing my hair out for tghe last 7 days.
Greatest coffee @ home ever! December 25, 2008 Juanita M. Milhoan (Massillon, OH USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We've used auto drip coffee makers for years. 2nd cup always had a bitter taste. This carafe looks beautiful on the table and the coffee is always great tasting. My husband & I both love it!
Refurbished Capresso December 23, 2008 Sabina Costalos (New Jersey) Really wanted this Capresso for my new kitchen. Basically it is beautiful! As an aside, it makes a wonderful cup/mug of coffee. Came packaged like new and at a more affordable price.
Very satisfied customers December 20, 2008 Cordelia I bought this for my husband two years ago and have not regretted it ever. For the first time today I discovered some mold in the area around where the reusable filter sits -- cleaning it out was a breeze. Everything came out easily for cleaning and went back in place again with no issues. The thermal carafe keeps our coffee super-warm for HOURS when we need it to. A solid purchase that I am very pleased with, and very reasonably priced.
