Product Description For more than a century home cooks and great chefs have cherished their round enamel cast iron ovens. From the stovetop and oven, to its elegant table presentation, Lodge Enamel provides superior cooking performance, versatility, and unparalleled style. When you're finished with your meal simply store your food in the refrigerator or freezer without any concern about food reacting to the porcelain enamel surface.
Amazon.com Review Lodge Color is one of the newest lines from this respected American cast iron cookware company. Traditionally shaped and more affordable than some European brands, Lodge Color enameled cast iron is just as durable, requires no seasoning, and attractively serves at the table. Lodge infuses this 6-quart Dutch oven with two coats of hard-as-nails porcelain enamel, in a choice of several bright colors that are gradated (dark to light) on the exterior, and which are nicely set off by a cream interior. Embellished with concentric circles and a black knob, the lid, which also fits the Lodge Color 11-inch skillet, is oven-safe to 400 degrees F, so you can start a stew or casserole on the stovetop and finish by baking it in the oven. The 6-quart Dutch oven measures 10-3/4 inches in diameter and 5 inches deep. Lodge enameled cast iron makes a smart choice due to its versatility-you can marinate raw meats in it, since it won't absorb odors or flavors, and you can braise, sauté, simmer, and bake in it. Made in China to Lodge's meticulous specifications, each cookware item is first clad in matte black enamel before the color is added. The black rim that shows on the oven is actually the scratch-resistant matte enamel, not the raw cast iron. Though the Dutch oven is dishwasher-safe, washing by hand is recommended to best preserve the glossy finish. Look also for the pricier Lodge Enamel series, with its unique L-shaped lid knob, in a different set of colors and sizes to suit any kitchen. All Lodge enameled ware is covered by a lifetime warranty against defects. --Ann Bieri

About My Lodge Color Enameled 6-Qt. Dutch Oven December 1, 2008 Brenda Haramis (Warrenton, VA USA) Love my new Cast Iron Dutch oven. Having bought the Dutch oven to make "No knead Bread", I soon discovered that I am using it frequently for other things such as pot roast and sauces. The Dutch oven heats very evenly; is usuable on the stove top as well as the oven; cleans up lickety-split and is pretty to boot. I own Le Creuset which is wonderful. However, Lodge is significantly cheaper and, in my view, just as good as the more expensive cast iron. By the way, when the shipment arrived the lid and pan were separated by little black bumpers which I kept so that the lid and pan would continue to be protected in storage. Just remember to remove the bumpers when the Dutch oven is in use.
Lodge Dutch Oven November 29, 2008 G. Mcphail This is our first dutch oven. We have made soup a couple of times and baked bread. This is a great addition to our kitchen. I would recommend a Lodge Dutch Oven to everyone.
Great Purchase November 19, 2008 Marine Mom (Maryland) I'd been looking at the French brand but just couldn't bring myself to spend that kind of money. This does just what it claims and I've used it at least twice a week since I got it. I've used it to make soup, make a roast, and just last night made my grandmother's fudge recipe to sent to nieces who are working in China. Even with the scorching on the bottom from the fudge, a short soak and it cleaned up beautifully, no scrubbing necessary. Very good value for the money. I've had it about a month and used it 6-8 times. No problems with any chipping.
Beautiful but Made in China November 14, 2008 Lisabeth Robinson (Morrison TN USA) I bought this Lodge Dutch Oven because it was recommended by Cooks Illustrated and for the color. It is beautiful, but was disappointed upon opening to see that it was made in China. This fact needs to be made prominent in the Product Features or Product Details. It is insufficient to bury this information in the Product Description. There are plenty of people, including myself, that do not want to buy products, especially cookware, made in China.
Awesome Dutch Oven October 17, 2008 M. Cody (Central CA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I really debated buying this pot since everyone I know LOVES the Le Creuset version. I just couldn't bring myself to spend $300 on something when I could buy this one for 50 bucks. I am NOT sorry. This is my favorite kitchen item now. I love it. I have made stew, pot roast, soups, Ropa Vieja and everything comes out fabulous. It does take a bit of time for the pot to heat up but once it does, you can simmer with a very low flame for the size of the pot. It heats evenly, doesn't stick and cleans easily. It is heavy and must be hand washed but I hand wash all my pans anyway. If you are in the market for this type of pot, buy this one. You will not be sorry.
