5 out of 5 stars Incredible fly swatter   November 17, 2008
Avid reader (Tucson AZ)
As others have said, I feel like an idiot raving about a fly swatter, but this is absolutely the best fly swatter we have ever had - easy to handle, very accurate and even gets them in the air. I have no idea why it works so well - it just does. We were hit with an infestation of flies and this handy swatter dispatched about 50 of them in minutes. If you need a fly swatter, don't waste your money on anything else - get the OXO.

5 out of 5 stars Product is excellent; the cost of handling and shipping, terrible.   November 10, 2008
Nicholas Zizelis (New York)
Familiar with it, I knew the product was excellent and ordered 2 from Amazon. In round figures, the product was $17 and handling and shipping was $16. It came UPS and I was directed to return it for refund by US mail for $5. The cost of the fly swatters was refunded but the cost of return by US mail was not because, "Amazon was not at fault". Had the handling and shipping been $5 to begin with instead of as much as the product itself, I would not have returned it only to be punished by paying the return cost myself. Although I have ordered many items from Amazon, I will no longer due to their disreguard of customer satisfaction.

5 out of 5 stars wonderful fly swatter   October 24, 2008
Oscar Jaeger (Brooklyn, N.Y. U.S.A.)
This Oxo fly swatter is the best I've ever owned. I can't even imagine a better one, except for one tiny detail, of little consequence. This detail is that the swatter has a dime-sized hole in the upper left corner, in the shape of an insect. This seems counter-functional, since theoretically the insect you are trying to swat might escape through this hole. On the other hand, maybe this swatter was designed by an animal lover, who wanted to give
the insect a fighting chance! In any case, the design is otherwise perfect.

4 out of 5 stars Better than most plastic swatters   October 5, 2008
S. Harrison (Clements, CA United States)
We've had this swatter for almost exactly two years. It has worked very well, better than most plastic swatters that we have had in the past. Just recently, The plastic mesh started breaking apart. I don't know if that is just the way that it is, or due to the fact that we keep it on a window sill, where the sun shines on it all day. In any case, we will definitely buy another Oxo swatter.

By the way, there is a scientifically sound method to increase your kill rate. Recent research at Caltech indicates how best to hit the fly you are aiming for:

If the threat is coming from the front, the fly moves its middle legs forward and leans back, then jumps backward.

If the threat is from the back, it moves its middle legs backward and jumps forward.

If the threat is coming from the side, it leans its body to the other side before jumping.

To hit the fly, anticipate where it will be, don't aim exactly where it is. This method really does work.
