Amazon.com Product Description
Featuring embossed, cast-iron construction with a handsome vintage look, this outdoor fireplace brings light and warmth to gatherings of any size. The round pit provides a full 360-degree view of flames, while a large, sliding door provides easy access for re-fueling. Wood, charcoal, or artificial logs burn down safely on the log grate inside. An ash-catcher in the base makes clean-up remarkably easy, and the chimney with rain cap prevents wood from getting wet and smoking rather than burning. The Sonora stands 53 inches high, and makes a striking accessory to your deck or patio--even when not in use. --Mary Park

4 out of 5 stars It's good   April 2, 2008
Trip Like I Do (USA)
It's quite massive and solid in construction. Assembly was easy and intuitive. Three of the nuts were missing so it cost me 15-cents extra after a visit to the local hardware store. I painted mine all black with high-temperature paint for that turn-o'-the-century look. It should only be used under light wind to no wind conditions unless it is placed someplace where there is a windbreak - the all-around exposure of the unit can cause embers to really fly if you do try to set it up when there's a real wind. Heats well if it's above 50 degrees outside. Grille on top of the smokestack lets you heat up some water for coffee just for the heck of it. Lets you sit outside a bit earlier in the season before the mosquitos emerge. Toast marshmallows and vege outdoors. Fun.

4 out of 5 stars Log grids burned out after one year.   February 22, 2008

There is some "convincing" needed to assemble the unit, but it is do-able.
We have had ours for over a year, and my only complaint is that the log grids have burned up and are deformed and almost unusable after the year. I would not complain if I could get replacement grids, but no one seems to have them available, except some peasant in China who makes them. I admit, we do burn some hard woods and have nice hot fires %^), but without replacable grids, it is a throw away after a year. %^(
Anyone have any ideas on making replacements with something that can stand more heat than cast iron?? I am pretty resourceful if I can find the right material that can take the beating.

2 out of 5 stars Missing Parts, etc.   September 14, 2007

We received and put together the Veranda Sonora Outdoor Fireplace on 9/13/2007. The item was missing 3 nuts and two of the pre-drilled holes did NOT line up so the Screws could not be put into the Fireplace to Secure it. I'm VERY disappointed in the products Quality.
There also was no address to write to (email or otherwise) or phone number to call in order to lodge a complaint and to see what could be done to make us a satisfied customer.

5 out of 5 stars veranda chimnea   November 9, 2006

at first, i was overwhelmed with the pieces to be assembled. i'm not one to assemble things easily. so, i had my husband put the chimnea together - taking well over an hour, in hopes of no missing bolts 'n pieces. to my amazement, the outdoor fireplace looked very nice. it took a couple guys to carry the fireplace outside the patio/garden. we threw a duraflame firelog in it that evening to test the endurance of the fireplace. it held! the ambience was perfect. the piece is quite sturdy and safe. i definitely would recommend this chimnea to any of you shoppers out there, especially now that we're facing cold, chilly nites. just wrap yourselves in warm, fuzzy blankets, enjoy the wine with friends, and relax on your chaise lounges, and stare into the glowing flames.

4 out of 5 stars Not a bad product   April 20, 2006

Overall this Sonara is pretty good. Burns hot, and goes through the wood quickly. Inside volume is good enough to burn scrap wood and even bigger logs. It is definitely not for indoors, and warning label says so very clearly.
The construction is Ok. Assembly was not as easy as it should have been. Some halls did not line up right, and did require some brute force to wrestle parts in their place. Packing was good, but still main mesh was slightly deformed, and did require a few taps with the rubber mallet. Overall quality of the materials and paint is good and solid, and looks like this sonora will serve quite a few seasons.
