Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Product Description
The Mantis weed reducer cuts back the amount of stringy weeds that could wrap around the tine shaft of the transmission. If weeds collect on the tine shaft, this pair of weed reducers make it easier to remove them. They install quickly on the tine shaft of any Mantis tiller/cultivator.

3 out of 5 stars "constructed of solid steel"???   July 24, 2008

I just received these and I've not used my Mantis in a weedy area yet so I can't comment on how well they work.

But I am pretty unhappy about the false advertising. The description of this item specifically says "Constructed of solid steel for strength and durability." But this is a lie. These parts are constructed of relatively cheap, light weight plastic. I hope they don't need to be strong or durable to survive! It really bothers me when companies make "mistakes" like this that favor themselves and hurt their customers.

They may or may not work, but they are definitely overpriced considering they are small, simple pieces of cheap plastic and Mantis is charging quite a bit for them.

5 out of 5 stars Weed reducers   July 13, 2008

The Mantis weed reducers are a must. They are easy to install and do their job well.

4 out of 5 stars Work OK   July 4, 2008

These are pretty good at making it easier to get the roots and tangles out of the tines. They aren't as good at keeping them from getting there in the first place. I don't think there is a solution for that - it's just the nature of rotary tines and long, tough, fibrous roots. I think their main value is that they keep roots from becoming tightly wound around the tine shaft and seals that protect the transmission.

4 out of 5 stars Should have been included with the Mantis tiller   June 30, 2008
Quoc I. Tran (california)
I bought them along with the tiller. I had a lot of weeds in my yard and a few times these weeds got tangled up aroung these reducers(rollers) but the Mantis never stopped working.
I 'd have given it a five star rating except the price is kinna high for a couple of plastic rollers. They should come with the tiller for free and why not because all new mantis orders come with a free kick stand now.

3 out of 5 stars Adequate   June 20, 2008
Kathy (Gresham, OR United States)
I don't run my tiller without these so I don't really know how badly the weeds would tangle or how much more difficult it would be to remove the weeds. These do help to make removing wrapped around weeds easier but they aren't necessary for the tiller to work well. They are easy to put in place but do take a bit of jiggling to seat them when replacing the tines after cleaning.
