Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
This deceptively simple tool puts its streamlined design to effective use. The opener basically pulls apart the seam that connects can side from can wall. Easy to operate and small enough to tuck neatly into a drawer. Or, thanks to the loop handle, you can hang it on a Rosle rail.

Amazon.com Review
One of Rösle's superb kitchen tools, this 8-inch can opener is brilliantly designed to provide safety and hygiene. Instead of cutting down through a lid, as conventional openers do, it smoothly cuts along the side of a can's rim. That means it doesn't leave behind a hazardous sharp edge and the lid can't fall into the can. It also means the opener never touches the can's contents. Like all Rösle tools, utensils, and Open Kitchen storage components, the opener is made primarily of 18/10 stainless steel, although this tool has a rugged plastic head. The round handle is stainless steel with a satin finish to conceal finger marks. The handle is sealed against water and has a hanging ring so the opener can be conveniently stored on a hook in the Open Kitchen system of Rösle basic rails and Gridwalls or hung on any hook or peg. The opener is sturdy, balanced, and exceptionally comfortable in the hand. All Rösle products are made in Germany and carry a lifetime warranty against defects. The can opener should be hand washed to protect its cutting wheel. --Fred Brack

5 out of 5 stars Great can opener   September 1, 2008

Both the service and product are 5 stars! The ease of ordering, delivery, and product quality make me wonder why I ever hop into my car to drive to a store to buy things.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic safety can opener   August 17, 2008
Gina Maria Clements (New York)
This was highly recommended on the Food Network's "Test Kitchen" , so I decided to purchase it. It's expensive at $35 but worth every penny. I won't ever need another can opener!

5 out of 5 stars Eliminate jagged edges!   August 5, 2008
Auntie Debs (Boston, MA)
I love this product. It works well to open cans, a must for any can opener. But it also eliminates jagged edges that can hurt you or anyone tending to your trash or recycling. The only thing that would make this better for aging baby boomers is if it were electric. But it is good for the price.

2 out of 5 stars Rosle can opener peters out   July 14, 2008

We have had our Rosle can opener for three years and it was incredible. Lifetime warranty, what could go wrong. Well, it just stopped working. The knob turns, but the cutter goes no where. Lifetime warranty? You cannot get it replaced except in Germany. It's not worth the $35 purchase price if it stops working and you cannot get it replaced for free.

3 out of 5 stars Great opener, but poor longevity, found better substitute   June 22, 2008

We bought this at a Villeroy & Bach factory outlet store for about $14 4 years ago. We loved it the whole time and it saw daily use, but it eventually stopped working because the teeth that turn the can failed. We went back to the outlet store to swap it for a working one and found the store was no more.

While we were at the outlet mall we went into a kitchen gadget store we found a "Good Cook" brand "safe-cut opener" (google for "good cook 11834") which is virtually identical (even same insignia on the wheel with teeth that wears out). The two big differences are that the can gripping comes from squeezing levers not force from turning opener (I think the better grip should reduce teeth slippage, reducing wear, making it last longer) and it was just $9.
