Complete Piece of Junk August 5, 2008 B. C. Davis (Pennsylvania) I bought this yesterday (not on Amazon, at a grocery store), and the first time I used it, today, it broke. But before it broke, it gave me one heck of a battle trying to open a little 6.5 oz. can of button mushrooms. First, the round cutting blade did not securely hang onto the can as I tried to twist the rotating knob. So, the natural reaction is to grip the handles harder, but this results in the handles actually becoming detached from the opener (the handles are not glued or fastened onto the device, they simply slide onto the head of the opener, and can easily be pulled off). After sliding the handles back on as snugly as possible, I continued trying to open my can of mushrooms, but the can would only sporadically be punctured by the blade, rather than being continuously sliced into; and the shaking of the can as I tried to grip hard enough to get the blade to cut, but not too hard so as to avoid the handles pulling off, caused the can to shake periodically, spraying mushroom-water all over the table I was working on. Finally, to add insult to injury, as I continued struggling to get the lid off my mushroom-can, the round cutting blade finally popped right off of the device, rendering it completely useless, unfixable, and destined to the trash can. And leaving me with a can of button mushrooms whose lid had been sporadically and arbitrarily punctured, but failing to render the can lidless. So I will try to pry the lid off with a letter opener, hoping not to slice a gash into my hand. Do yourself a favor, and spend a few dollars more to get a can opener that actually works. That's what I'm doing on Amazon right now.
Broke first time I used it August 2, 2008 A. Power (Seattle, WA USA) The can opener was very loose when I took it out of its packaging. Needless to say, it broke the first time I tried using it, after only about 2/3rds of a can. The actual metal gearing/cutter sheared off. Dont buy this product.
Trash July 27, 2008 M. P. Carrasco (Houston, TX) i thought the metal looked cheap. on first use, the blade ring snapped off. it's now in the trash. save your money for something else.
It's a can opener July 25, 2008 GroundStar (Battle Mountain, NV, USA) Well, this is a can opener. It does what it is supposed to do. Open cans. Does it without trouble. Seems to be of good construction and never slips off the can. Easy to clean and large enough not to get lost in the drawer or in my hands. Can are opened without sharp edges and when cleaned out the covers go back on the cans and make good hiding places for things you need or want to hide.
Mine didn't work well July 24, 2008 J. Born (ORLANDO, FL USA) Perhaps I got a bad one, but after mine arrived it would only work when I left the can flat on the counter and then used the opener carefully while keeping the can flat on the counter while I used it. If the can wasn't flat and I wasn't pushing down with the opener on the can while using the opener it just didn't work.
