Product Description Weighs up to 16 ozs. or 500 grams / Accuracy of 1/4 oz. or 5 grams / Dual-purpose bowl features a snap-on lid / Travel-worthy
Amazon.com Review Perfect for use at home or on trips, this mechanical diet scale from Salter is lightweight, stores compactly with a snap-on lid inside its own weighing container, and is absolutely easy to use. The scale measures items weighing up to 16 ounces (500 g) in precise 1/4-ounce (5 g) increments, making it ideal for dietary or baby needs. Made of durable plastic that wipes clean, the scale features a 2-3/4-inch round dial and a small platform that snugly weds the underside of the weighing container. After the container is positioned in place, simply turn the knob until the dial needle registers zero. Add and weigh food as needed, resetting to zero after each ingredient if desired. If acidic or strongly colored foods such as oranges, curries, and tomatoes are to be weighed, it's a good idea to line the container with plastic wrap first. The container is dishwasher-safe, but should not be used in a microwave. The scale itself measures 3 by 2-1/2 by 4-1/2 inches, while the container (and thus the storage size) measures 4-3/4 by 3-3/4 by 3 inches. A clear plastic lid snaps on to keep the scale free from moisture and dust. Made in China, the scale is covered by a 10-year warranty. --Ann Bieri

Worth it for the price July 26, 2008 monkuboy (Temple City, CA United States) I just needed a simple scale for occasional kitchen measures. As for its accuracy, I really don't know but it seems to be sufficient for my needs. Heck, for $5 I don't need critical accuracy; this one seems close enough. It is a handy unit, not taking up much space and it stores nice and compact in the box it came in. My only negative comment is that the tray is not very big so some things are not easily weighed on it. Many people might find it worthwhile to spend a little bit more to get one that has a larger tray. Being the cheapskate that I am and not really needing a big tray, this one works fine for me.
Could have hoped for more May 15, 2008 B. L. Arias (Mexico) I would recommend on spending a little more and getting a digital scale, this one although meassures well has to be adjusted everytime.
scale April 16, 2008 Ann M. Fotiades Product is just what I need, the fact that you can store the scale with a lid is great.
It's OK for the price April 9, 2008 Bob Dobbs (Washington, DC USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
At five dollars, it is a good buy. I had one that broke after a couple of years use. The zero-setting knob became detached from whatever it is attached to inside. But, for the price, I am just buying another one. I like how it all stores in the food tray.
Best buy for this price, works as good as the expensive ones April 2, 2008 Young Chang (scottsdale, az) I decided to live a health lifestyle about a month ago, started lifting weights combined with cardio but didn't really pay attention to what I ate (nutrition-wise). In order to calculate calorie intake precisely, I figured I needed a kitchen scale and I didn't want to spend alot of $$ for this item and that's when I found this. I almost got the $25 scale that's out there on amazon.com and I'm so glad I didn't. I just received this today, and it's a perfect size scale to prepare well-balanced meal. What I care about spending most of my $ is what goes into my body (food, cosmetics, lotion, etc), you don't have to spend tons of $ to start eating right. Just start off with getting this cheap without the cheap functionality kitchen scale. Weight is very precise for a 5 dollar scale. 5 stars. Not recommended for people who eats big portion because this only weights up to 500g/16oz which is perfect for me.
