Amazon.com Review
A sleek stainless-steel base and glass platform make this electronic scale slim enough to slip in a drawer and elegant enough to leave out on the kitchen counter. Food can be weighed directly on the glass weighing platform, or you can use any bowl you want. The Aquatronic features a special design that weighs liquids as well as solids, in the same bowl if desired, up to 11 pounds/175 fluid ounces (5 kg/5000 ml) in precise 1/8-ounce/fluid-ounce (2-g/2-ml) increments.

Like all of Salter's electronic kitchen scales, this one features a highly accurate strain-gauge weight sensing system, LCD display, lb/kg conversion switch, add-and-weigh function, low battery indicator, and auto zero function. Measuring approximately 8 by 8 by 1-1/2 inches, the Aquatronic comes with replaceable, long-life lithium batteries and is covered by a 10-year warranty. --Ann Bieri

Product Description
With the latest technological advances, this digital Aquatronic scale allows you to measure ingredients directly onto the platform or using a bowl or container of your choice. A simple press of a button lets you measure either liquid or dry ingredients. The slim design features a glass platform that is entirely hygienic and resistant to staining. A polished, stainless base completes its good looks. Sensitive to 1/8 of an ounce, it has a capacity of 11 pounds. Also offers zero function. Gives readings in U.S. or metric measurements.

5 out of 5 stars Every cook needs one   June 19, 2008
Helen J. Williams (Pasco, WA United States)
This is a "must have" for any cook. No more guessing on how much to put in the recipe. Being able to set a bowl or plate on the scale and having it start at zero makes it so easy to measure.

4 out of 5 stars Love it!   May 23, 2008

I have not found any problems with this scale. It is my first so I had preconceived ideas, I thought it would have a bigger surface area, but have found that it works good the way it is. I have used this for everything from baking recipes to mailing letters. I would recommend this to anyone loking for a kitchen scale.

1 out of 5 stars It looks pretty, but...   February 21, 2008

I bought this scale and have since returned it. As other reviewers have pointed out, the zero/tare button is on the weighted part of the scale itself, making it impossible to weigh several items together. I also found the unit poorly constructed (the feet weren't perfectly level, so it always wobbled a little), and overly sensitive to slight movements. For this price, there are much better scales available.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Scale   January 1, 2008

Needed something to replace the spring type scale we brought from Germany.

This one fit the bill perfectly. You can set the default starting measure scale to Grams or ozs with a slid switch on the bottom. It is very sensitive but will also take plenty of weight. The zero features are great and you can measure anything, liquid or solid. Just zero the scale with the measuring device, cup, glass or bucket in place and add the item to be measured to it. Spot on.

Looks good too. Not sure how long the batteries will last, need to uses it and see but they are very easy to get at if needed. It will turn itself off if you forget.

Overall, we are very pleased, a nice addition to the Kitchen.

2 out of 5 stars Odd design for weight points   December 27, 2007

I bought this scale recently to replace another salter aquatronic scale that just died (1003). The odd thing about this design is that the feet of the scale control the weight points which is fine for single use. However if you try to hit zero after already loading in some items on the scale (like if you want to weigh ingredient after ingredient in the same bowl)the scale measurement actually changes each time you hit the zero button. In essence it is very difficult to reset the zero feature since everytime you push the panel, the scale thinks that you are adding weight to it. The previous models had the scale parts internal to the unit so that pushing on the frame of the scale had no impact on the measurements. However with this unit, any light touch on any part of the scale causes the measurement to change. Not very useful if you plan on using any of the buttons on the front of the scale.

Overall if you plan on only ever measuring one item at a time and don't plan on using the zero function, then this unit is fine. Otherwise avoid this type of design where the feet of the unit is part of the internal measuring mechanisms. This one is going back for me so I give it a 2/5 since it does not do everything that is stated on the box. I do not think that this was a lemon unit, just a bad design.
