Amazon.com Review
With a 350-watt motor offering 10 speeds plus pulse control, this versatile blender does everything but mow the lawn. Can it crush ice? Certainly, and it'll blend smooth frozen drinks like smoothies and margaritas. Will it chop nuts? No problem, and coffee beans, chocolate, and vegetables (in water) come out at whatever consistency desired, as well. Does it purée baby food? Naturally, and when lumps disfigure gravy, punch the purée button and they'll disappear. Shredding cheese, making bread crumbs, blending hummus and chocolate mousse--all these and many, many more tasks are right up the blender's alley. The blender's glass jar holds a hefty 48 ounces, and a removable cap covering the filler hole in the jar's lid serves as a 2-ounce measure. The blender stands 14 inches high. --Fred Brack

Product Description
Blenders are a must-have for smoothies and cocktails, but they are also adept at making baby foods, crumbs, grinding coffee beans, blending batters or soups, chopping veggies or nuts and even smoothing out lumpy gravy. This one offers 10 speeds and a powerful motor as well as a sturdy glass jar and stainless steel blades. A removable blade assembly makes cleaning very simple.

4 out of 5 stars 10 years and still running   June 23, 2007
Silba (NYC, USA)
I bought this thing ten years ago. I use it on a regular basis to make protein shakes (frozen fruit and ice cubes included). I take it to work sometimes, and, on one occasion I took it on a plane with me. Well, not on the plane, rather inside the plane. In a small bag, wrapped in a towel. When I arrived at my destination I opened the bag and found the plastic bottom open and the motor sticking out. I closed it back together, put some tape over it, and turned it on. This was four years ago. It's still working. What can I say? I give it four stars, because I get frustrated with it sometimes, as it can take some time to crush ice cubes.

3 out of 5 stars Three Years Before Motor Burned Out   March 1, 2007

Like another reviewer, I got about three years use before the motor burned out. However, I did use it almost every day/seven times a week - so it got used about 1000 times before it bit the dust. I don't feel that was too unreasonable considering the price - and considering that Hamilton Beach commercial blenders cost $300-$600.

1 out of 5 stars Junk   October 26, 2003

I received this as a gift and like the others, the motor lasted a few months and then died.
I know of blenders that have lasted for YEARS, not months.
I would highly recommend purchasing another blender rather than this disposable choice.

5 out of 5 stars But why would I buy it here?   October 17, 2003

Why would I pay for shipping and handling, on top of an inflated price, when I can go grab one from the store for $19.99?

I wouldn't.

1 out of 5 stars Complete junk!   January 13, 2002

The review says this blender has a plastic jar - does the blender in the picture look like it has a plastic jar? Anyways, I'm pretty sure I bought this model. Like the other reviewers said the motor died in just a couple months - avoid it!

In fact it was returned and I got the similar 52200 model (which is what the picture here looks like). Neither blender was good at chopping frozen items like fruit or ice. Plus I put it in the dishwasher, the blades rusted shut and (again) I fried the motor. I only ran it for a second or two and immediately I knew there was a problem, but that's all it took for this garbage. Again, it happened in less than a couple months.

You may do well to avoid Hamilton Beach brand blenders altogether. I know I will.
