4 out of 5 stars Best Teapot I've Ever Had   September 15, 2008
j. mchinson (San Francisco, CA)
We LOVE this teapot, have had it for 2 years...We have a Staub teapot as well, and while we love the aesthetic of that pot, we far prefer to use this one. Contrary to other comments, we've NEVER had a problem with it, you just have to use common sense: you have to bend the wires at the end of the handle into notches to properly fit the pot - there has never been a danger of the pot coming loose; don;t fill the hot pot with cold water; and once the water has boiled, it does help to take the lid off (with a hot pad) for a couple of seconds to let steam out - it prevents excessive sputtering from the spout. I've bought 2 now for gifts and the reviews from those friends have been the same as mine - and ceramic is truly the best for tea.

5 out of 5 stars A "Real" Tea Kettle   June 5, 2008

This tea kettle is by far the best stovetop tea kettle. Versatile and heavy duty, water comes to a boil quickly and retains its heat long after the burner has been turned off. Best part: tea tastes like tea. No metallic taste and no rust over time! I have had my kettle for a number of years. It has withstood the abuse of being banged around in the kitchen sink without a single chip or nick. Great investment!

1 out of 5 stars Dangerous Joyce Chen Kettle!!   June 1, 2008
Annie (Portland, Oregon)
This kettle is very dangerous and should be taken off the market immediately!! There is a serious design flaw in the kettle. The wire apparatus attached the handle to the kettle is not secure. Less than two months after I purchased it, the handle gave way with the wire slipping that held the kettle to the handle. It dropped full of boiling, scalding water, breaking as it hit the counter and floor, coating me with scalding water on the way. The front of both my legs have second degree burns with large blisters and broken skin. I shudder to think what would have happended to my two pug dogs had they been close to me as they usually are. The force and heat would have been enough to blind and/or kill them.

This pot should be taken off the market for safety reasons until the design flaw is fixed. I bought it because it was a lovely kettle made of safe ceramic. Please don't risk the purchase.

This design flaw was noted in the review dated August 2006 made on this site by another customer. Unfortunately, the kettle was still being sold in 2008, two years later.

Joyce Chen 2-Quart Stovetop Ceramic Tea Kettle

This an incredible little (2 Quart) tea pot! - It is ceramic and can be put directly on a stove burner and heat transfer is unbelievable. - heats water very quickly! - It's great to look at, very well designed, sturdy and dense. - (Just don't drop it on the tile floor!)

1 out of 5 stars Dangerous Product   April 18, 2007

As much as I liked this teapot for the first year after I bought it, I must give it one star (apparently zero is not an option on this form). Similar to a few other reviews, while I was pouring hot water the metal sliped out of the hole sending the tea kettle crashing to the floor and boiling water all over my leg. Also, the ceramic broke when it hit the floor, presenting another danger. I just now contacted the company via their online form to ensure they are aware of the problem. Thanks, Joyce Chen, for the permanent scar on my thigh!
