BEWARE!! - My crock cracked during 3rd use (Original Review June 5, 2007) December 4, 2008 K9 Lover There's another offer on Amazon for this same slow cooker. That offer has a lot more reviews than this one here. My original review from 6/5/07: After my experience, I looked up KitchenAid's website. There they have a forum and a special thread for those who have had their crocks crack. Some people are on their 3rd replacement and the crocks are cracking in the same place every time. MY REVIEW: I bought this KitchenAid slow cooker in black and I really had to talk myself into buying it because it was so expensive. I kept telling myself you get what you pay for. Well, tonight I want to cry because I had just started a pork roast to cook overnight. After leaving the kitchen, my husband and I both heard a loud pop. I went back and found my slow cooker leaking liquid all over the place. I took out the crock, turned it upside-down and found a winding crack all along the bottom. I've only owned my KitchenAid slow cooker for about 2 weeks and the crack occurred during the third time I used it. At this point I don't know if I want a replacement slow cooker directly from KitchenAid or whether I want to return the slow cooker to Amazon for a refund. If I got a replacement, I would be nervous to leave it on overnight or when I leave home, which is the whole benefit of having a slow cooker. Worrying about your slow cooker that has a retail price of $150 doesn't seem like a very good value to me.
Crack Pot December 2, 2008 fan (Marietta, GA USA) I was hoping against hope that this would not happen to me. I bought this pot even after reading about all the cracked pots on here. I thought well maybe just a bad bunch, but NOooo, mine cracked today while making a roast. Otherwise I love the pot. I hate having to clean the bottom where all the juice drained into the aluminum part of the exterior and then repack the thing and lug it back to the store. Back to square one. My Hamilton Beach also cracked. I had had a crock pot for 22 years that never cracked no matter what I did to it. It was thick and sturdy all of the new ones (that I've seen) are so thin and the ceramic is wavy and chincy. What a terrible state of affairs, everything more expensive and crappy quality. I'm sure the stores are overwhelmed with having so many of these returned because of cracked pots.
Bought two of these and both had problems! November 24, 2008 M. Young (CA) First one I bought the lid did not sit flat on bowl, it rocked. Second one the lid was fine. Cooked a roast on low with no problems. Cooked another roast the next day on high and 1 hour into it I heard the"famous" pop I'd read about in reviews and heard the liquid burning as it seeped out the bottom of the crockpot. And my roast and liquids were at room temp. when I started and nothing was added after it was turned on. I do not understand why a company such as KitchenAid would continue to produce and sell such a flawed item, I certainly won't buy any of their products because of this. Looking back at reviews this problem has been going on for a long time!
Cracked Crock August 28, 2008 SAH (Alexandria, VA United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Hairline crack along bottom of ceramic pot after only a dozen uses. Should have checked reviews before purchase like I usually do. After reviewing other comments on this product stating kitchen aid replacements also cracked, will just take the loss and try another brand.
Horrible, Horrible Experience. 4 ceramic crocks later. July 20, 2008 Carole A. Martin (Deerfield Beach, FL) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Delighted to get this beautiful product...until I used it. Craaack! What was that noise? The ceramic crock cracking during the first use. Oh, well. Just an exception to the rule. This is KitchenAid, right? The best, right? So, I wrote to the company and they sent me another ceramic crock. That cracked on the first use also. I wrote again, and they sent me a replacement appliance and a return shipping form. I sent the first slow cooker back and was delighted to have a new cooker, whose crock cracked during the first use. So, I notified the company. This time I was very upset. They replaced the ceramic crock, which dutifully cracked this time during the second use. I'm done! I have NEVER had a slow cooker that behaved this way, and I can't believe a fine company like KitchenAid is allowing these cookers to be sold. Let the buyer beware!
