KitchenAid's Artisan stand mixer is a substantial piece of equipment: 325 watts of mixing power make child's play of creaming butter, kneading dough, and whipping cream. The kid in you will appreciate how quick and easy it is to mix up a batch of cookie dough. This model comes with three attachments: a flat beater for making batter, meat loaf, and all textures in-between; a wire whip for egg whites, mayonnaise, and more air-infused creations; and a hook for mixing and kneading yeast doughs. All three are solidly constructed and easily secured to the beater shaft with a simple twist. This model also includes a pouring shield for guiding ingredients to their proper destination, and the bowl itself locks tight to the base. I have wanted a KitchenAid stand mixer since 1952. Finally gave in and bought myself one for Christmas. It is a gorgeous red, and it decorates my counter because it is too heavy to move much, and also too beautiful to hide. I am very happy with this purchase. It works well, is easy to use, does a good job. Worth waiting for.

I love this - should have invested years' ago. It is heavy, but this means it doesn't move across the counter when in use. Every part of it seems strong and substantial, except the silly plastic flour adder piece that sits on top - this doesn't even fit properly. I would definitely recommend this item to anyone - and Amazon.com had the best price plus free shipping.

After using cheap hand mixers for years I finally decided to get off the wallet and buy something that would last more than a couple of years and at the same time make life in the kitchen a lot easier. I've had my eye on a KitchenAid mixer to complement the kitchen in my new home for almost 2 years now. I finally said enough is enough and bought the Onyx Black, Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer.
Immediately, chocolate chip cookies were not only easier to make, but tasted better. Ditto for a few of the bread recipes I've tried in the past. Great mashed potatos followed by a killer Belgian waffle batter were next and I continue to look for recipes of foods I never dared try in the past.
This mixer has the guts and power that make any recipe a snap. I don't think there is a chore out there that this mixer couldn't stand up to. One thing that surprised me was how quiet this mixer is even when running on the higher settings.
Cleanup is easy too. A quick wipe down with a damp towel is all that's needed. The attatchments and 5 quart bowl are dishwasher safe if you don't feel like cleaning by hand.
As stated in other reviews, this KitchenAid is no lightweight at 20+ pounds so find a permanent spot for it in a prominent area of your kitchen. In my case, the island in the middle of the kitchen was a no brainer and brings instant compliments when company arrives.
For those who are considering buying a stand mixer, there is no other choice. Buy the KitchenAid and you can't go wrong.
