 No good for artisan bread, overpriced for "factory" bread December 5, 2008

Oh c'mon! The reviewers who gave this toaster such high ratings must eat mainly "factory" bread, for which a $19.95 toaster should be perfectly adequate.
If you are a true lover of sublime toast -- someone who differentiates between breads that make the ideal thick-slab toast to accompany a great plate of eggs, thin crostini while cooking, or a snack with afternoon tea -- any toaster that can't handle hand-sliced artisan breads isn't worth consideration.
This toaster has paltry 5-1/4" long slots, which will handle "factory" bread that's designed for production-style sandwiches. But it can't handle center slices from a wide variety of round(ish) artisan loaves.
That's enough to disqualify it. But, if you're still giving it consideration, it has the same flimsy lifters as any cheap toaster. These are the first part to fail when a toaster gets high use, especially with hand cut clices of artisan breads.
For this toaster -- "No deal"!

The first toaster we have ever had that toasts evenly and to the level you pick with the simple control. It is a dream for bagles as well. it is rated the best by consumer reports and i can confirm that, the best.

If you are, buy this one. It is made with quality. Never gets hot on the outside(except top). Heavy duty cord that you can rap up. Toasts bread perfectly.

I bought mom a plastic Oster toaster five years ago. Microprocessor controlled, lcd readout. A big deal. For some reason, after five years, the plastic started to melt around the opening on top. Junk. Researched the Internet for the "Best Toaster". This came up. Got it. It is. That's all you need to know. I got it for twenty dollars less a week ago. Now it's going for about $70. Mom loves the SIMPLE click dial on the thing, and the fact that it WORKS! For some reason, toasters, invented about a hundred years ago, are generally lousy. Can we all say, "C-H-I-N-A" ? Like the guy in the Matrix says, This is "THE ONE".
