Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Review
The beloved chef Emeril Lagasse has teamed up with renowned cutlery company Wusthof to create Emerilware knives--a collection designed to deliver great performance without breaking the bank. Crafted in Wusthof's German factories, Emerilware knives feature blades that are laser-cut from high-carbon German steel. This material is durable, handsome, and stain-resistant, as well as excellent at retaining a sharp edge. Emerilware knife handles are ergonomic in shape with a nonslip grip and sport the Wusthof trident insignia at the end. All Emerilware knives are stamped on the blade with both the Emeril signature and the Wusthof logo, making them great gifts for Emeril fans.

This Emerilware set includes a cutting board and an 8-inch bread knife great for slicing fresh loaves or making quick work of big tomatoes. The cutting board is fashioned from bamboo, which is both highly durable and easier on the environment than many hardwoods. The design combines comfortable rounded edges, a subtle striped surface, and the Wusthof logo. For best maintenance, both knife and cutting board should be washed and dried by hand. --Emily Bedard

2 out of 5 stars Buy as a starter only   September 17, 2008

The knife feels cheap in your hand, it is not what you expect from Wusthof. My cutting board warped within two months and now is nearly unusable. Spend some more money and get a better product.

4 out of 5 stars Fine at reduced price   September 7, 2008

At $40, pass on this pair, but at about half that cost, you'll be very pleased. The size of the board was no surprise to me, as I looked at its image compared to the image of the knife. The knife is just fine for bread, which is what it's sold for. If you're looking for a carving knife, make another selection. Need a paring knife? Not this one. Bread knife? Yep, this is it. I also use it for tomatoes and cake. The only knife I own that I run through the dishwasher.

3 out of 5 stars Serves its purpose   August 10, 2008

Bought this and the similar chef's knife set on a 1-day sale; this one, at least, was a decent deal.

Knife is v. sharp (at least for now), but not sturdy; fine for bread. Board is oddly shaped, long and narrow, but again, fine for bread.

On sale for $20, it's a good light-duty knife. At $39.99, not so much.

4 out of 5 stars ...very decent knife and board.   July 20, 2008

The blade is ideal..it is not in IMHO thin. It is sharp...be careful.
Designed to cut most breads. If you have special needs than perhaps a different knife is required. I also have a Chicago bread knife that is longer for bigger/crustier loaves. Considering what many people use out there this is VERY good.

The board is not large..than again the picture illustrates that. No surprise. What I like about the board .. the easy grab sides. The board is not too thick and has non skid rubber tabs.

I too paid $14. At the current $40..I would look at other knives and boards.

4 out of 5 stars Somewhat disappointing   July 11, 2008

I was disappointed in the quality of the knife -- thin, flexible blade, although it is better than the slicer also in this line. And the board is so small that it really is useless to me. There are much better knives at this price point ... including OXO, Victronox and Anolon. Don't let the Wusthof name fool you. Don't let the Emeril name fool you either.

I gave it four stars because the price was right -- $14 -- and it was better than the slicing knife in the same line. I rarely need a bread knife, so it will do. But I'm still thinking about returning it.
