A Must Have June 7, 2008 Chris (Miami, FL) Wish I had these years ago. Don't know if as you get older you are more sensitive to the sulfur in onions, but it was almost intolerable to slice an onion. Since I cook a lot and almost 3/4th of recipes call for onions, was having a hard time and it was so painful. Well now with these goggles, NO problem. Totally takes the pain, tears, burning, etc. away. A must have for your kitchen.
Worth every penny! April 14, 2008 Rita of Burbank (Burbank, CA) Finally! Over the years, I've tried everything to avoid the burning, tearing, ruined eye make-up of onion chopping and slicing - refrigerating the onion, slicing it under water, swim goggles, closing my eyes (not recommended). Until a friend told me about these goggles, I just dreaded this part of cooking. From the first time I tried these, I knew this had been $20 well spent. From now on, I'm tucking a pair of these into every bridal shower gift bag.
Great for Burning Man March 17, 2008 Sean Fitzroy (Boston, MA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I haven't used these to cut onions. I actually bought them for my girlfriend to wear to Burning Man. These are great for the desert and far superior to regular sunglasses for keeping dust out of your eyes (although, they don't block the sun, if that's a concern). They could fit just a bit more snugly, and i've seen larger ones elsewhere that probably provide better protection, but these are worth considering for Burning Man aficionados or, I suppose, people that cut a lot of onions. Five stars if you're cutting onions at Burning Man.
If nothing else works for you, these will. March 1, 2008 C. Mullenaux (Weiser, Idaho) First, I've got to say that I tried ALL the remedies for onion tears that are out there. ALL OF THEM!! Nothing worked. I even tried other types of goggles & safety glasses but they just didn't do the job. I would have tears streaming down my face, have to run out of the kitchen when I couldn't stand it any longer, and then my eyes would continue to burn for hours afterwards. I started using dehydrated onions in my cooking as often as I could, but it's just not the same. Then I discovered these. After a year of hesitation (yes, I waited that long), I finally purchased them. The day after they arrived I put them on and sliced an onion, and had NO tears!!! Not one! At first my husband was laughing because they looked so silly, but by the time I was done I was the one laughing out of pure joy! These work!! So, if you've tried all the tips and tricks out there and none of them work for you, get a pair of these. They're worth a try. I would prefer to have paid a lot less for these (I agree they are overpriced), but now that I have them, it was worth it!!
totally ridiculous January 18, 2008 LA Larry (North Hollywood, CA United States) 1 out of 13 found this review helpful
This is absurd! I just saw this product on a local news report. ANYONE who has spent a little time learning their way around the kitchen can tell you that all you need to do to prevent tearing when chopping onions, is to REFRIGERATE your onions, and chop them when cold. Works like a charm.
