Editorial Reviews:

Editorial Review
Endorsed by three-time Olympic gold medalist Josh Davis, this is an ingenious system designed for 6-to-9-year-olds who weigh between 55 and 80 pounds. Under adult supervision, youngsters sandwich themselves between two blue foam plates that are furnished with Velcro shoulder straps and slide toggles for adjustable fit. The ingenuity is in the composition of those foam plates: They're each composed of nine slices of foam. As a child's swimming skills increase with time, these float pads can be removed one by one; soon kids will be dog-paddling with the best of 'em--and all by themselves! If it's not a perfect substitute for swimming lessons from a qualified instructor, the Safe T. Seal Super Swimr Swim Trainer does provide a wonderful way for kids to gain confidence in the water. --Tony Mason

3 out of 5 stars Tall kids beware...   July 13, 2008

I think this product is really great. It's comfortable to wear, stays put in the right position on the body, and it is very easy to remove flotation as your child becomes a more confidant swimmer. My only issue with the Power Swimr is the crotch strap. My son is well within the weight range specified, but at 48" tall, the strap is just too short. So short that when extended to it's full length the Power Swimr was around his belly instead of higher up on his chest where it should be. I contacted Swimways Customer Service and was informed that extensions are not available. My child is confidant enough in the water that I just removed the strap all together. It still stays put and I am happy with it's performance otherwise.

I've taught 4 kids to swim with the assistance of the Swim Trainer. Progressively remove one or two of the inserts and kids don't even realize they are taking more responsibility for staying afloat! It's not a flotation device, it's an aid to learning to swim. I keep one on hand even though my kids swim like fish now. (We have a pool, so I keep one for visitors.) I've recommended it to many of my friends.

5 out of 5 stars The best trainer in the market   July 2, 2002

My son tried the tire thing before and can't really move his arm to swim. The Super Swimr works perfectly as described. I will recommend it to all beginners. They should make one for older children and adults who can't swim.

5 out of 5 stars Works very well, when you understand what it is for!!!!   June 28, 2002

I have 3 kids. My ten year old and eight year old have both learned to swim using the swim trainer. If you read the package, you realize it's not meant to keep your child floating upright in the water. It is not a floatation toy. It is meant to give your child the confidence to try to swim while gradually working them into the proper position! My 4 year old started using swimway trainers last year with all the floatation pads in place. This year, we removed a couple of the pads and she swimming like a pro! Be sure when you buy a something, read the package so you know what it's meant for (yes, I'm responding to the negative review written by the other lady).

5 out of 5 stars Worth the money   June 10, 2002

We started using this when my daughter was two and she was not
comfortable with it at first (she preferred an Aqua Swim School boat). But we'd try this again from time to time as she got older and it finally caught on (I'd say she was just a little older than 3) and she loves it. You have to adjust the straps a bit to get it comfortable but once the straps are set, you won't have to adjust it again. It's easy to use, keeps her afloat, she swims well (kicking her legs and using her arms) moving about freely in the pool. Without it, we would be holding her and she wouldn't be exercising her muscles like she is now. She loves it -- many people have asked me at our pool club where they can buy one. I highly recommend it if you can get past the initial "find the right strap setting"/"getting used to it" phase.
