5 out of 5 stars We love this vest!!!   July 20, 2008
C. Peterson (Seattle, WA United States)
We love this vest! My son was about 22 momths when we first used it in the pool in Hawaii. Of course as it is not a life vest, just a tool to teach swimming, we were with him and holding him at all times. The first few times he was in it, we definately had to hold him up and support him as he would have been face down if we had not. But it was really great to be able to teach him how to kick and paddle with his arms while having some buoyancy. We had to use it many times before he could hold himself upright. The package says it is used as a step by step tool to help teach kids how to swim. So if you use it as it was intended and teach them as you go, you will NOT be dissapointed with this product.

We dont live in a place where we swim on a regular basis, but the we used it again about 6 weeks later and after the first day, he remembersd things and he was doing doggy paddle by himself and keeping his head up while staying upright....of course, we are still there with him 100% of the time. It has been a really wonderful and comforting way to take him into a swimming pool and he loves it now! He knows he has to have his vest on to go in the pool and he asks to have it on, plus now he wants to just wear it around the house!

We have really enjoyed it and on top of swimming lessons this summer, and us teaching him some basics, he will be swimming in no time...but he will know he still needs to wear his vest for now and cannot go into the water without it or an adult.

Enjoy!

This vest is great! Our daughter just turned two and we can put her in the big pool with this on and sit on the side and watch. She can do everything on her own wearing this.

I am very disappointed with this vest. I know it isn't made like a life vest but my 19 month old was walking around our 2 foot deep pool with the vest on and went completetly under many times. I do not feel he is safe in it unless i am holding him in some way. It may help them from sinking all the way to the bottom but doesn't give me any piece of mind.

1 out of 5 stars FYI: Not intended for small children (2 yr old)   July 5, 2007

Like most people w/ this type of swimming device, I just wanted my (2 yr old) daughter to be able to stay upright in the pool. Of course she would not be unsupervised but she was sitting on the step by herself while we were out of the pool and she leaned forward fell of the step and was her head was submerged. It was only seconds but it was one of those images I will not soon forget.
