BLACK & DECKER STEAMER November 24, 2008 B. MEAGHER (White River Junction, VT USA) We absolutely LOVE our Black & Decker Steamer we ordered online! It's the best way to steam vegetables and leftovers. It cleans up nicely. I would 100% suggest it to anyone.
EXCELLENT VALUE...Myriad uses, built to last! September 22, 2008 K Nexsen (Virginia USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've actually had this steamer for several years (9, maybe?) and use it at least several times a week. Although it's no longer the prettiest appliance, it never fails to deliver! I use it for so many things. Rice and other grains cook in it well, and one of my favorite uses for it is to make a flourless steamed chocolate cake (I'll provide the recipe below). It's been getting rave reviews from guests and family for years for me, and no one knows how easy it is! I also use this as a "sauna steamer" for facials from time to time, as I had purchased a steamer for this purpose some years ago and found this is actually a better appliance for it. I am seriously impressed with this product, as it is so reliable and well-made for such a low price. Definitely one of my favorite appliances of all time! Flourless Steamed Chocolate Cake (for your steamer): INGREDIENTS: 1/2 cup milk (I use Silk soy with great success; you can also replace or cut this with a liqueur of your choosing. Creme de menthe is a favorite for us) 1/4 teaspoon salt 3/4 cup white sugar 1 (12 oz.) package semisweet chocolate chips 1/2 cup unsalted butter 5 eggs DIRECTIONS: 1. From your steamer, grease the inside handled bowl and set aside. 2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat combine the milk, salt and sugar. Stir until completely dissolved and reduce heat to low. Add in chocolate chips, and stir until melted. Remove from heat and allow to cool a bit. Cut in butter, and then slowly temper in eggs, one at a time. 3. Pour the batter into the prepared bowl, and cover loosely with waxed paper or foil, and place mixture in steamer. Set timer on steamer to 45 minutes. After cooking, the center of the cake may still appear uncooked. It's okay. Chill the cake, very loosely covered (I use a clean kitchen towel) for several hours, or overnight if necessary. 4. Place the bowl in a shallow pan of hot water for a few seconds to remove the cake easily. Serves up great with fresh whipped cream, fruit, or even a nice caramel sauce!
Great steamer August 17, 2008 Leenda I had been searching for a steamer for quite some time. This was a good price and it works great. Very satisfied and prompt shipping
I LOVE THIS STEAMER!!! July 1, 2008 Truly A. Magyar (Los Angeles, CA) I use this steamer several times every day. It lives on my counter top and I hardly need to use pots and pans anymore. It is so easy to clean and use. I love just being able to quickly dump in some veggies, set the timer and go off to do something. When I hear the bell everything is perfectly steamed and delicious. It is one of the best purchases I have made.
best vegetable steamer June 11, 2008 A. York (Vancouver, Canada) I appreciate minimal amount of work when preparing vegetables for a meal so I steam all my vegetables - every meal. I've had this model for 12 years, used it nearly every day and it finally gave out. I waited to replace it because I couldn't find the same circular model. I started using a stainless steel basket and after 2 months of doing that and hating it, I dug around more to find a replacement. I love the shape, it takes less space than an oval container. I only use it for vegetables; I've never used it for rice or meat because it's always in use as my vegetable cooker for a meal that the rice is cooked on the stove and my meats are usually grilled. The basket is large enough to easily feed a family of 8 and I find it easy to clean (nearly every part goes into the dishwasher). It's really inexpensive; overall this is a fantastic vegetable steamer and I'd highly recommend it.
