Product Description
WIDE MOUTH SS LUNCH TOTE, 48OZ/ 1.4L

Amazon.com Review
Virtually unbreakable, this lightweight, vacuum-insulated tote travels to school, work, or recreation and keeps foods hot or cold for up to six hours. Four microwave-safe, white plastic containers stack inside, providing enough capacity for a balanced meal: salad, soup, main dish, and dessert. The main-dish container and leak-proof soup container have twist tops, while the salad and dessert containers have snap tops. A stainless steel spoon travels inside a plastic case that slips into a plastic holder attached to the tote's side, and a removable black nylon strap slips over a shoulder to keep the tote upright. With its satin-finish exterior, stainless steel inner liner, and black plastic accents, the tote (9-1/2 inches high, 4-1/2 inches in diameter) is handsome, compact, and durable. Preheating or prechilling the tote with hot or cold water, depending on the lunch's contents, is recommended. --Fred Brack

4 out of 5 stars An exciting alternative to traditional packed lunch setups   November 22, 2008
135mph (United States)
This thermos product makes for an interesting but very practical lunch system. It is designed around the Japanese bento lunch jars that have been around for a while so this isn't any kind of innovation by Thermos. However it does advertises thermax insulation that is used in other thermos product that have an excellent reputation for heat/cold retention. The main selling point of this unit is the tremendous variety of different foods that you can pack compared to traditional packed lunch setups.

The outer container looks like an insulated thermos food Jar without the stopper and It comes with four inner containers.
The bottom container is insulated and sealed and is designed for saucy foods such as soups and stews. The middle container is insulated but not sealed so anything liquid will leak and make a mess. Why didn't thermos use a sealed lid like the bottom container? It appears that this container was specifically designed for rice which is very common in Japanese cuisine. By not sealing the container the rice will keep hot but by allowing moisture to escape the rice remains fluffy and the right texture. I find this container works well for any non-saucy foods that need to be kept hot such as vegetables, potatoes, pasta, spagetti etc...
The top two containers are basically non-insulated tupperware type containers. The top one sits in the cap area of the thermos so its not getting any insulation. These two containers are designed to keep foods at room temperatures.

A typical lunch could go something like this:

Pot roast and gravy in the sealed insulated container.
Roast potatoes, vegetables and stuffing in the unsealed insulated container.
A piece of cake and a salad in the other two containers.
Or perhaps you would like a hot dessert and cold entres. Let your imagination be your guide.

The insulated containers can also keep cold foods cold. As you can see, the possibilities are endless.

I'm pleased to say that the system does work well. Foods keep hot for six hours or so and the cold foods keep at room temperature, all in a neat compact package for easy toting. The unit is built like a tank, just like most Thermos Nissan products and overall quality is excellent.

The only issue is the goofy spoon container that hangs on the side of the unit that seems to be a lot bigger than it should be and which rattles around when toting the unit. My advise, take it off and just carry a plastic spoon with you.

Overall an excitng alternative to the more traditional packed lunch systems.

1 out of 5 stars Extreme disappointment   August 30, 2008

Couldn't keep food hot for even two hours. The only time I've been disappointed by a Thermos.

5 out of 5 stars nice product, helped me loose weight   June 3, 2008

This is a great product, and I think a little better than the bento that I had. The containers in the bento were not microwavable. The portions are great for a day at the office (two small main dishes, one small snack in the afternoon, and salad). It seemed like I was eating more food, but I actually lost weight because I was not going out to lunch as much, or starving in the afternoon and heading to the vending machine. I wish they had a smaller size for children.

The lid makes a great bowl for mixing things like rice and beans. The spoon is a bit too huge... I never use it - instead I just keep spoons at the office.

5 out of 5 stars Ideal Product!   January 4, 2008

The Nissan Sport Tote Bottle JLN1400X is great! It keeps my lunch hot for hours (12+). It's easy to clean, and isn't obnoxious in size or style -- no flowers or fabric. Joe Muscle had the best price -- even though shipping was $9. I figure that the money I save on buying lunch at work will pay for both of them within a couple of weeks.Nissan Tote Sport Bottle 48-oz.
For those who feel like making your lunch takes too much time -- don't forget to factor in the time it takes to stand in line at your local lunch cafe. I don't know how long this lunch thermos has been around but I expect that it will become pretty popular.

5 out of 5 stars PERFECT   December 3, 2007

IT HAS ALL YOU NEED TO BRING A COMPLETE LUNCH TO WORK. It is also durable, and insulated. The quality is superior to anything brand X that you would buy on impulse at a store. Good price.
