Editorial Reviews:
Product Description Atlanta is a boldly sophisticated pattern that is perfectly suited to today's demands for both relaxed and formal dining. The narrow marbled border features a Greek key design and is edged in platinum.
Amazon.com Review Royal Doulton, founded in 1815, is one of England's famed producers of fine bone china. Its designers continue to draw on history and mythology for creative fodder; the relatively modern Atlanta pattern, which first appeared in the mid-'90s, reaches back to ancient Greece to evoke the lost paradise of Atlantis. Combining oceanic color and classic Greek ornamentation, the Atlanta pattern manages to be simultaneously antiquated yet contemporary. A thin platinum band hugs the gently flared rim and spout of the Atlanta cream jug. Just below the platinum lies a slightly wider band of cloudy ocean blues, and then a border of tiny squared spirals (a familiar Greek motif). There are platinum bands decorating the sides of the cream jug's handle and its base as well. The 11-ounce jug is a good size to use for warmed maple syrup or for a dessert sauce. Other matching pieces in the Atlanta pattern include tea and coffee cups and saucers, a large coffee or cocoa mug, and a lovely covered sugar bowl. Because of the platinum trim, Atlanta dishes should not be used in the microwave. Though not designed to handle extreme temperature changes, Royal Doulton china can be pre-warmed for serving in a 100-degree oven. Royal Doulton china is dishwasher safe; it can handle water temperatures of up to 150 degrees F. When hand washing, avoid abrasive cleansers and scourers. Avoid stacking in other cups, as this might weaken the handle and spout; likewise, in order to protect the rim, do not place upside down in a dish drying rack. The Atlanta large cream jug measures 5-1/2 by 4-1/4 by 3-1/2 inches and has an 11-ounce capacity. Royal Doulton guarantees that a chosen pattern will be available for two years after initial purchase. --Garland Withers
