DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!! August 21, 2008 Laurence E. Koross After years of purchasing items on Amazon, this is the first review I have ever written. The reason? This toaster is such a piece of junk that I wanted to warn others not to waste their money on it. My experience: 1) mechanical - the door is difficult to open and close as if it is not tracked correctly; 2) toaster - the toaster is missing an essential and common sense feature. There is no way to stop your toast while it is toasting in case it is getting too dark and you want to pop it up immediately. You either have to wait for your toast to burn or turn it down to to "1" and hope it pops soon; 3) oven - the heating element for the oven is so low and close to the rack that it burns everything you put on it. The one redeeming quality? It certainly does fit in a small space, useless as it is. So now the obvious question must be asked: why would Hamilton-Beach put a toaster on the market that is not well-functioning mechanically, missing an essential element of a toaster, and is virtually useless as an oven? Only one reason I can think of - it is "space-saving" and would appeal to people like me with small kitchens. Moreover, their savvy corporate marketers are well aware that once people buy an item they more than likely won't return it. They use it for a while and then just deal with it until it breaks and they need a new one. Therefore, I urge you to take my advice and purchase another product, even if it is a few inches bigger. Otherwise you will also be stuck with a piece of junk that simultaneously depleted your wallet and our precious natural resources. As for the other reviewers who rate it highly...I cannot imagine anything else but that they are employees of Hamilton-Beach who are trying to dupe you. Don't buy it.
Less is more August 15, 2008 Pascale Heimonet (Washington, DC, USA) Perfect for what it claims to be: a toaster with a small toaster oven, nothing more, but nothing less either. The length is perfect to toast long slices of bread or thick bagels. In summer, I avoid turning on the kitchen oven just for a heating slice of pizza or a scone: this is the perfect alternative. It will not cook a meal for 2 or 4, but it is perfect for quick daily use, without invading the counter space. This is a smart combo; it makes me feel almost "green" when I use it. Less is definitively best.
toaster oven August 14, 2008 M. Jackson (Bothell, WA USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Hamilton Beach 22708H Toastation Toaster It's very nice looking and doesn't take up a lot of counter space, but the toaster part, my bread gets caught in it and I have to fish it out. I haven't used the oven yet. I'm so so about it, but for the price it's not bad.
I HATE THIS TOASTER! August 12, 2008 R. Register (Houston, TX) Sorry to be so blunt, but it truly reflects my sentiments. It was my first Hamilton Beach product, afraid it will be my last. I fell for the "cute" factor. Kept it for 6 months, mainly because I paid $40 for it and I was reluctant to spend money on another toaster for a while. I put up with it as long as I could. It burned EVERYTHING in the oven part, the heating element was too close to the rack. Nice, melty cheese on toast? Nope. Just flaky brown burnt cheese on burnt bread. Cinnamon toast? Nope. Just burnt sugar on burnt bread. As for the pop-up portion, it was impossible to get the toast out. I ended up giving it to my neighbor and purchased another toaster.
Great for small kitchens August 11, 2008 Brooks W Parker (PA) This toaster/oven is what it looks like, a nice compact toaster/oven. It is not very large, so don't expect to fit 6 pieces of bread in it, but if you have a small kitchen with small counters, it is a great buy. It toasts a bit unevenly, but I am not picky about that type of stuff. Also, it can get very hot, so you need to be careful not to burn the tops of items.
