Product Description
"A cooking tool with a silly name and a seriously functional form" is what Fine Cooking says about this revolutionary grilling tool. The sharp, spiral snare at the tip is cleverly designed to lightly pierce the edge of virtually any solid food for turning. A quick flip of the wrist and your food is turned to the other side. Use it for a rack of ribs, hot dogs, steaks or shrimp. It's also perfect for the kitchen as you turn bacon, baked potatoes or French toast. Never again will you have to wobble food on a spatula with this on hand! The set of two arrives in a solid wood box with brass fittings, a handsome case for storing.

5 out of 5 stars Just Excellent!   May 21, 2008

I bought one of these a few weeks ago from the manufacturer's direct sales website. Amazon's price is better, of course. This tool works unbelievably well. You can't comprehend the full meaning of this without trying it. I can't understand why it wasn't invented centuries (millennia?) ago. It effortlessly turns meat and other objects on the grill and accurately lands the food just where you want it on the grill. Amazon sells the right-handed version. If you're left-handed, you need to buy the left-handed version direct from the company's website. This isn't an ambidextrous tool and I really mean that. But once you've used it, you won't ever use a tongs or spatula again. It's deadly sharp and turns the food leaving only a microscopically fine hole behind, not large enough to cause loss of any appreciable amount of juices. It rolls sausages and hot dogs without puncturing the skin at all. The quality of manufacture is really top-notch and the wood handle has a little "flat" on it, so when you set it on a flat surface, it keeps the tip from touching the surface. I discarded the leather thong in the handle, but that would be useful if you wanted to hang it from a hook. You probably only need the small tong, which is sold separately on the company's website, but the large one would be useful for people with a large grill surface, or for especially large pieces of food like a whole rack of ribs, or if you had a grease fire or otherwise wanted to keep your distance from the fire. Everybody so far has awarded this product five stars, but it probably deserves six.

I was a bit skeptical about how well this thing would work. But a friend forced me to use it when I was grilling up some food at his house.

I placed the order for 2 sets that evening, one for a gift, and one for myself. This thing is amazing... it's like picking up with your fingers and flipping it. It really is that easy.

We have a set of Pig Tails in the wooden gift box (perfect for storing). They are handy tools and of good quality. We use them in the house and on the grill. The longest one gives you a good reach and keeps you out of the heat. Just a little flick of the wrist, ta da! It is a handsome gift. I'm ordering 4 more.

5 out of 5 stars the original PIGTAIL is still the best!   February 5, 2007

i LOVE to bbq and when i say LOVE it, i mean i LOVE IT! nothing better to do than have a holiday where we can have an excuse to bbq for a big crowd. the last time we had a get together we grilled THIRTY tri-tips! the tri-tips were arranged five rows of six each, so there was a lot of flipping going on! the secret for great tri-tip is to constantly flip the meat, contrary to many books. by flipping the meat every few minutes, less moisture leaves the meat resulting in juicier meat when done. years ago, i used to "flip" the meat with a fork ... what a mess. the big holes let out lots of moisture resulting in dry meat. i then went with the tongs, but the tongs would rub off the dry rub or the bbq sauce. i then went to a "commercial" brand pigtail flipper but the wire was thick and wouldn't pierce the meat easily. i then bought the ORIGINAL PIGTAIL flipper and the "hook" is so incredibly thin and strong that flipping the meat is effortless! i should have bought one of these from the get-go!

5 out of 5 stars The PigTail is a must have BBQ tool!   July 12, 2005

The PigTail is the best BBQ utensil I've ever used. Great for Steaks, Chops, Veggies, Hot Dogs, Chicken, whatever. I can lift a whole chicken with the smaller one, great for Beer Can Chicken. It also has a fine enough point to flip and serve shrimp and grilled vegetables with ease. The longer one keeps your hands away from the heat and flames, which is especially handy when you have a grill full of food. You'll be the envy of the neighborhood with this cool tool.
