Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Review
With its low-profile, power-nozzle design, this ultra-quiet bagless canister easily cleans in tough-to-get-at places like under the bed, couch, or coffee table. Its wide 15-inch nozzle cleans more carpeting per stroke than a traditional 12-inch nozzle, while edge groomers mounted on either side of the nozzle help loosen dust, dirt, and unsightly lint that collects along baseboards. Its patented WindTunnel technology uses computer-designed air ducts to provide a powerful dual-air stream, enhancing its ability to pick up dirt. Instead of bags, the vacuum uses a transparent cup, which is easily removed and emptied for quick dirt disposal. Multiple stages of filtration include its first-stage filter, which is in the dirt cup and traps most dust and allergens. Additional levels of filtration are located after the dirt cup to trap additional debris that may have escaped the first filter. The final filter is a HEPA allergen filter. For convenience, the unit's deluxe pump-handle provides remote fingertip control for variable motor-speed settings and brush roll "on/off," while an easy-to-use foot-pedal quickly rewinds the 22-foot cord. Attachments include a six-foot hose, telescopic chrome wands, a crevice tool, dusting brush, and filter cleaning brush. The vacuum measures 12-1/2 by 18 by 10-1/2 inches and carries a full one-year warranty. --Catie Unger

5 out of 5 stars This Vacuume Sucks!   October 15, 2008
Erik G. Prosser (White Rock, BC)
Bought this based on other reviews. I was still impressed when we got it.
It's well made and seems real sturdy. Very powerful suction.

Bought it for our travel trailer as my wife has been through 3 in one year just for the trailer.

We have a built in at home and I still caught my wife using the Hoover :)

4 out of 5 stars good solid workhorse   September 15, 2008
J. C. Wyrtzen (Carlsbad, CA)
This inexpensive vacuum cleaner does the job. It has good suction and draws dirt and accumulation away. I am remodeling so it has been put to the test. I like not having to have bags to change. It empties easily. I am a little disappointed in the way it follows since it does get hung up at corners and on table legs. That may be because of the big wheels. However, I am very please with the cleaning and for a very reasonable price.

3 out of 5 stars Power Switch Failure After a Few Months   September 12, 2008
K. Matthews (Kaneohe, Hawaii)
This is my first canister vac, and I was truly impressed with its performance compared to any upright I had previously used; including Dysons. While it takes a bit of time to get used to dragging around the canister, I'm not sure if I would ever go back to an upright due to the increased power and obvious results. I was amazed as to how much more this would pick-up, and shocked that I had been living with a carpet that could have held so much 'dirt'!
With the plus side being said, my three stars are based on the product itself; the Power Switch on the handle started failing within a few months. I read previous reviews on this product and many stated that it's important to make sure the container is emptied often to keep it from overheating, so I would do so after every one or two rooms. The Switch issue wasn't a part of overheating, but when I would turn it back on after emptying the bin, it wouldn't start. Or, it would start and the brush wouldn't activate. Well, it's gotten to the point where I've learned to live with it, but I feel it was far to soon for it to fail. It's rather frustrating at times.
I have had no issues with it overheating, and the attachments work fine. I really like the extension of the wand for the out-of-reach places, while maintaining power and suction. The length of the cord is perfect, and the auto-retract feature is wonderful. If there wasn't the issue with the power switch, I would have given it a 4 to 5-star rating.
One feature I would like to see is that the unit should not power-on if the bin isn't in place properly. If it's not fully in place it will still power on, and there's not much of a difference in sound for you to realize it's not working properly because the bin isn't properly connected.

4 out of 5 stars Great Vacuum   August 18, 2008

This vacuum had surprising suction. I could not believe how much stuff this vacuum picked up. It makes me think that my previous vacuum was not doing anything. Everytime I use this vacuum on my rugs the cannister is full! I like that there are no bags to buy and I can see what it picks up. I was a little concerned when there was not a separate attachment for hard floors but it does the job. The only drawback I can think of is that stairs are a little difficult to clean especially rug.

4 out of 5 stars An improvement on the upright   June 14, 2008

I've been using another Hoover Bagless Windtunnel product for a few years (the upright model), so I'm comparing the performance of this unit with that one.

To start with, I'll say that vacuuming the house is now taking a bit longer, but the house is cleaner as a result. With the upright it wasn't possible to clean hard floors and actually say they were 'clean' -- 'better' would have been the term. With the canister vacuum I don't feel the need to get the broom out and clean the non-carpeted areas.

A big advantage is that this machine gets under furniture much better -- cleaning under the bed (where the dog sleeps) and under tables is simple. The head of the vacuum fits under most pieces of furniture, so I'm not moving things (or cleaning them less often) to nearly the same degree.

The suction seems quite a bit more powerful -- I started by vacuuming a room with the upright, then going over it again with the canister vac. It was a carpeted room but I was impressed with the additional amount of dirt/hair the new machine picked up. Part of this could be a "new vs old" comparison, but the change was noticeable.

The 'bagless' part of the equation has been improved as well. I don't know that I'd choose to open the dirt holder inside, but it's significantly easier and less messy to empty the container than it was on the old model. Both filters (the HEPA filter on the exhaust fan and the primary filter) are washable in cold water as well, which seems an improvement to me. There's a brush included with the vacuum that's specifically designed to clean out the crevices in the filter, which is an improvement over the "bang the filter against the inside of the trashcan in order to shake loose any debris" method on the upright. There's also a light on the canister that alerts you when you need to clean the main filter, so you're not doing it too frequently.

Handling seems a little odd, but I'm used to the upright so this will probably go away. The primary controls are a power slider to control the strength of the suction, and a button to turn on the brushes for carpet cleaning. The cord is retractable but seems a bit shorter than I would like. The hose is plenty long, and all the adjustments are easy to actuate quickly.

It's a good unit. I checked consumer reports online post-purchase and found that it was a 'quick pick,' but that the cheapest editor's choice model cost $300 and wasn't a national brand (but can be found at Sears and K-Mart). Performance is great for the price, and it does the job in my house, even with a dog that *really* knows how to shed.

I'd buy it again. There are other models out there with more features, but this does the job competently.
