Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Review
With two uses in one utensil, this tool is the ultimate for working with citrus. The head features several sharp holes for zesting lemons, oranges and more, while the channel knife lets you create elegant garnishes and decorations with little effort. And when you're through, its large, oversize handle opening makes hanging easy. The Good Grips line features durable, nonslip flexible handles on every product. Ergonomically designed to fit the palm comfortably and softly, the pressure-absorbing processed rubber handle puts less tension on the hands, while providing an outstanding grip. Made from the same material as dishwasher gaskets are constructed of, the handles are slip-proof, wet or dry, as well as dishwasher-safe. Good Grips products are moderately priced and have won the Tylenol/Arthritis Foundation Design Award. --Laurie Notaro

Product Description
The Good Grips Lemon Zester is two tools in one. The sharp holes in its stainless steel head remove the zest from the pith of lemons and other citrus fruits easily, and a channel knife feature makes it easy to decorate for garnish. Its soft handle nestles comfortably in your palm and is designed to prevent it from spinning in your hand.

5 out of 5 stars Great!   September 13, 2007

Just used this for the first time. I've always used a real fine grater for lemon zest, but this is SO much better! I got nice, thin strands of lemon zest and no issue about getting into the bitter white pith.

5 out of 5 stars I hate to endorse yet another gadget, but. . .   August 14, 2007

this little tool enables you to add another, fresh dimension to your
cooking. The bright, sharp tang of citrus peel is a wonder in dozens
of dishes. pancake batter? sure. a reduction sauce? of course.

In fact, any time you have meaty, salty or hot flavors in a combination
that seems to lack something or other, a bit of citrus zest is a good fallback
option. If you're really scrupulous, it pays to get organically grown fruit
because of chemical residues and paraffin preservatives on the skins of
conventionally-grown fruit.
A zester can also be used to raise butter curls or to scrape a carrot into
shreds as a last minute addition to a sauce, or to shred some parsnip into
hot soup.

It's unlikely that you will ever wear out the sharp edges on a zester, but
they are remarkably cheap and if you amortize the cost over-let's say-
a hundred recipes, this is a downright cheap addition to your batterie.

By the way, the little notch that you see in the side is a cannelling or caning blade. It's for cutting long thin strips. Those striped cukes that you see on salad trays are done this way. You can also use the strips themselves as decorative additions to stir-fries, pasta dishes and soups.

OXO is well known for their ergonomic grips. This one looks most unlikely
but actually proves to be very handy (so to speak).

1 out of 5 stars does Not work   July 22, 2007
shay
Feels really good in the hand but does not have the sharp cutting action to do anything, also the holes were not large enough, the angle for the pass was not made correctly, I could not get one single little bit of zest from lemons, limes, oranges ..... Had to return it and get another brand. (I had given my good zester to a friend is the only reason I needed a new one ... sure wish I knew what that other brand was)

4 out of 5 stars You need this zester   July 5, 2007
S. Slevinski (United States)
If you enjoy baking or mixology, you really must have this zester. It should be a staple of every kitchen. It's awesome for adding interest to cocktails like cosmopolitans and gimlets.

I've used this zester on oranges, lemons and limes. It works excellently for creating spiral twists on oranges and lemons. Limes are tougher to work with, though I can't say I've ever tried using a different zester on limes. Limes may just be tricker because the rinds are thinner. Overall, though, an excellent value for the money.
