Amazon.com Review Drying apple slices in just three hours and beef jerky in four, this 1000-watt dehydrator is exceptionally fast, using a big, 4-1/2-inch fan to force air up through the drying trays' outer rings and across each tray. A thermostat adjusts from 95 degrees to 155 degrees for drying different items. Each of the four plastic trays is 13-3/4 inches in diameter and 1/4 inch deepthat's four square feet for drying fruits, vegetables, herbs, or flowers at one time. Additional trays can be ordered separately, and up to 30 trays can be stacked on this unit's metal base at once. A fruit-roll sheet inserts into a tray so that applesauce or other fruit sauces can be dried into healthful snacks, and soups and sauces can be dehydrated for camping trips. Beef-jerky spices and a detailed 64-page recipe and instruction booklet are included. The dehydrator measures 15-1/2 inches in diameter and 10 inches high, cleans easily, and carries a one-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

Buy it now! November 2, 2008 V. Slocum I got this for my birthday and haven't really turned it off since I opened the box. I dries food evenly and quickly. The trays are easy to clean. The fan doesn't make very much noise. This is a high quality food dehydrator. I should have bought one a long time ago.
Improves on the earlier model October 31, 2008 C. Hannan (Augusta, GA) I bought this dehydrator because I literally wore out an earlier American Harvest model that I had for 8-9 years. Mainly used for making beef jerky, the earlier model worked like a champ until the fan finally gave out. Can't even guess how many hundreds of pounds of beef jerky it pumped out! I've used this one only once, but I love the performance and improvements already. The on/off switch is a nice feature as is the dial thermostat. As far as the fan noise goes - it's no worse than my other one. If you don't like to listen to it, move it to another location! This model is heavier and has a more sturdier construction. This unit is slightly larger than my old one, so the trays couldn't be reused. Oh...and it's performance? The higher wattage and better fan cooked the jerky in several hours less time. I'm looking forward to many years of problem-free use.
love to dry herbs October 8, 2008 Attar of Rose (state of oregon, usa) I dry herbs because I grow so many and use them all winter long. I also dried fruit this year and plan to do much more next season with tomatoes, peppers, beans, parsnips, carrots...they taste great dried as a snack.
Simply the best! October 6, 2008 S.R. Shoress (Portland, OR) I am totally enamored of this dehydrator! It is easy to use, dries fruit overnight, and effectively preserves the flavor in everything I've dried in it so far (apple chips & leather, plum slices, strawberry slices, kiwi, carrot, pear...) it is fantastic! It is, however, worth investing in the clean-a-screens...
Great dehydrator at a great price October 6, 2008 Ann E. Meitzen (CT, USA) The dehydrator arrived quickly, operates easily, and does a great job with tomatoes, peppers and herbs. I haven't tried the dehydrator with jerky, as this is not the reason I bought it. The use of the mesh screens helps a great deal and I would recommend purchasing additional ones, if you plan to generally use it for drying herbs.
