Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The one thing that probably discourages more people from purchasing and using cast iron is maintenance. Like carbon steel woks, cast iron cooking pieces require "seasoning." To many this is a mysterious or overly time-consuming process. Even if you treasure fond memories of eggs and pancakes cooked in grandmother's ancient, blackened skillet, you might have no idea how to turn your new pan into such a treasure. Fortunately Lodge has come out with the new Logic line, which has been evenly coated on all surfaces with an electrostatic spray of vegetable oil. Next the cookware is put into an extremely high temperature industrial oven which bakes the coating into the surface. Not only will you be spared the time and effort of seasoning, but also the new piece you buy will look and perform better than if you had seasoned it at home. Just like that heirloom pan you will find that even pineapple upside down cake doesn't stick to this surface. The ribbed bottom of this pan allows grease to puddle away from what you're cooking, all the while making those desirable stripes across fish, beast, or fowl.

4 out of 5 stars Proper grill pan   September 9, 2008

Lodge continues to put out real quality cast iron products. This is no exception. A larger size would be more versitile, but for the money, it's tough to beat.

5 out of 5 stars So much fun I look for things to grill   September 8, 2008

I bought this because it was the only grill pan I could find that would work with my induction stove top. I have cooked 4 steaks, pork chops, and burgers in this thing and they all come out with beautiful grill marks, juicy, and delicious! I love the high ridges!

For those thick cuts like a ribeye or filet mignon I find searing it on the stove top and then finishing it off in the oven works best.

This pan is not light, so if you plan to transport while it is still hot make sure to invest in a THICK set of oven mits!

I received my pan last week, and have made grilled chicken fajitas with a grilled corn relish as well as making grilled salmon burgers just now. Getting the timing of the chicken was pretty tricky, but the flavor was great. I wasn't at all sure if I could grill the corn on the cob, but it went off without a hitch. Today's salmon burgers was sort of an ultimate test since they're made with chopped salmon, panko crumbs, chives, etc. so I was leery of flipping them over without them falling apart. I used my large and very thin flipper, and it worked beautifully. My only complaint thus far was in the cleaning process after the chicken fajitas since they had a garlic and lime juice marinade, and the stuff pretty much melded to the pan. Afterwords, I started thinking that I don't think you're supposed to cook acidic foods in cast iron, so maybe that was part of my problem. Still, by far one of the most treasured skillets in my kitchen.

5 out of 5 stars The only one to buy   July 12, 2008

Works beautifully and gets better with every use.

All the other brands are Chinese junk. Some of them even cost more so why buy them?

If you don't have a real grill (or if the weather is bad) these are the next best thing.

5 out of 5 stars Great pan!   May 21, 2008

This is my second Lodge cast iron pan and I'm very happy with it. It grills both vegetables and meats well. Cleans easily. Pre-seasoning is a great feature.
