A tribute to Renaissance sculptor and painter Benvenuto Cellini, the Cellini dinnerware pattern exhibits many of the characteristics of the Mannerist movement--a form that exaggerated and distorted traditional Renaissance decorations--in its design. The rims of these six 10-1/2-inch ivory dinner plates are embossed are embossed in the same color with a bas-relief pattern of interlinking wide and narrow rounded archways, some filled with Renaissance-inspired acanthus leaves. Palm fronds fill in any blank space between the arches and the raised borders portray a winding ribbon traveling around the edges. The white-on-white design brings a subtlety to the pattern and plays down its ornamentation so this dinnerware can go casual or dressy as the host sees fit. Made of glossy fine china, this classic tableware has an elegant appearance but is sturdy enough for the microwave and dishwasher. Imported from Germany, this Cellini dinnerware adds a dash of European sophistication to any dining table. --Cristina Vaamonde
