Great product, poor documentation November 18, 2008

I purchased this washer a little more than a year ago, and once I got the bottom plate on correctly (which is not easy to tell from the documentation), it's been great. Several others have mentioned this, but you want to put the metal plate thing on so it bulges out, rather than in. If you put it on bulging in, you will hear TERRIBLE noises when you try to do laundry. With it in the right position, it is actually quite quiet.
I've had a few spills, but not due to anything the washer did--my sink was actually clogged or partially clogged and overflowed. This was not the fault of the washer in the slightest. I've never had any overfilling issues with the water on the high setting, and as long as I don't overload it, I don't have a lot of unbalancing issues.
Keep in mind that a pair of jeans is 2-3 lbs, a t-shirt is about 1 lb and that the capacity is only 6.6 lbs and you shouldn't have many problems with overbalancing. :)

After reading a lot of reviews on this product, I thought I'll chance it and get one, as I really did not want to use the public machines. What a surprise. I assembled as pictured and explained and had no trouble (after I've read some horror stories on bad assembly due to assembly instructions). I positioned the machine on a roller platform and made sure it was level. No problem. I also took some advise from some reviews and hooked the inlet/outlet pipes together with a tie at the faucet connection. I'm glad I did this - the water comes out really fast and forceful and would have unhooked the pipe if I just let it hook over the kitchen sink.
On the first hook-up I did 3 loads back to back and had no problems. On my second laundry day I did 5 loads back to back. On the fifth load I overloaded the tub with laundry and the machine made a few grinding noises. It kept on washing though. (Note to self: DO NOT OVERLOAD.)
The tub is bigger than I expected and would fit half a full washer load. (I could fit 1 pair jeans, 2 t-shirts, 1 pair shorts, 2 pair socks, 5 pair underwear - no problem). I also used a little too much soap on the first few loads - still saw soap in final rinse water.
Last week did 3rd laundry day - machine sounds fine (after overfull load the previous wash day) and did 2 loads back to back.
The laundry comes out clean and the tub (no agitator) is wonderful on my delicates.
I am really, really happy with my purchase and would highly recommend this washer to anyone in an apartment with no washer hookup pipes/outlet.

I've had the Haier HLP21E now for about five months, washing six to eight loads a week. So far, so good. I also bought the caster set that Haier sells, so I don't have to break my back lugging it back and forth to the sink every day. The caster set is worth the money, but keep in mind that some of the stores are charging double what Haier charges. The cost should be about $25.
It's not a quiet machine. It's not horribly loud, but it's certainly not quiet. I think most people who claim it is are simply going into another room and turning up the TV. If you have an apartment with tissue paper walls and fear the landlord might hear the noise, get a solid lie ready. This is actually quite fun. I find it very easy to hide this washer under a table cloth or even in my closet!
The inner wash tub is only about one cubic foot, so you will have to do about three loads for every single load you would for a standard size washer.
This brings me to an issue that is important for potential buyers. Over the months, I've seen people making wild claims about the amount of clothes they can put in this washer. Please be aware that some are full of beans. You are NOT going to be able to stuff five pairs of adult denim jeans in this, or king-size sheets and pillow cases, or eight bath towels. Either people are confusing this model with another larger Haier, or they are people who like to wear their own body soil repeatedly, or they are lying. Use some common sense. Firstly, there is not the physical room for the enormous amounts of clothes that are often being claimed. Secondly, if you stuff the machine full to the top, the soil will not completely rinse out, but will merely redeposit over larger areas. This is disgusting. Out-of-sight should not be out-of-mind when doing laundry.
You should never fill any washer more than half to two-thirds full of dry clothes, so don't do it with this washer.
Because there is no agitating spindle in this washer, heavy pieces of clothes might move to one side of the tub as it empties of water, in preparation for a spin. If it goes off-balance, a fuzzy-logic will kick in and the tub will stop and refill with water in an attempt to rebalance the clothes. This can happen easily with bath towels. I just pause the machine before it goes into a spin, and redistribute them.
Use a good, HE detergent. You only need about a teaspoon or two, depending on what you are washing.
Remember that the bottom plate goes on the machine with the curvy side "out", facing the floor.
Customer Service at Haier USA is a joke. They don't know what they are talking about, if pressed will admit to never having seen a Haier washer, and they are just plain stupid. If you really have an issue with your machine, harrass the Customer Service morons until they forward you to Technical. They will do this if you scream enough and make them cry.

I purchased this washer in 2003 and liked it very much. After we relocated and moved into a big house, I still kept it because it saves water, enviroment friendly and washes prtty well. I thought it would cover its own cost after 2 or 3 years of usage, and glad to see it's as strong as the beginning by 2008.
 Recommendation: Buy anthing but Haier! October 13, 2008

I recommend never owning a Haier product. I was lured into purchasing two different Haier products, and found the same problems with both: sub-standard functioning, terrible instructions, lacking customer service. In the end of it all, both products failed me so I am out hundreds of dollars and HOURS of my life spent on the phone with their rude and not helpful customer service representatives.
In the end, I spent more on the Haier products than I would have on a name brand, having to purchase equipment to do repairs myself (they have almost NO repair centers in the US), and having to pay shipping to get exchanges, which also did not work. Wouldn't you think they would guarantee their products enough not to make customers pay $15 per exchange for their mistakes?
Anyway, save yourself time, money and stress. Buy something else.
