One of the most versatile items in my kitchen October 16, 2008 Lajean Keller (California) Having been a fan of Griswold for years I was skeptical of a different brand. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality and the balance of this item (cast iron is heavy and if the manufacturer has not created the correct balance in the product, it can be very difficult to lift [This is what makes Griswold worth the money]). I love this fryer. It is excellent for the stated frying, but it has so many other uses. On hot days I use it to bake biscuits, or cook a whole chicken so I don't need heat up the house. It is much more energy efficient than a countertop oven or a conventional oven with excellent results. My only disappointment with this product is that it doesn't come in a larger size.
Never got the item. October 6, 2008 Glen Klocke 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
Consumer beware, I never receive this item. I notified Amazon twice with no help. I was charged for the item USPS states that they delivered the item, but I don't have it. Amazon is just ignoring my requests to rectify the situation.
This is Our Fryer of Choice June 22, 2008 D. Dorsey (The South, USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We don't have an electric fryer of any kind. We use the 5 quart Lodge chicken fryer. I can't stand the smell of frying in my house so we use the burner on our grill outside and this works perfect. This fryer is extremely heavy. It is more shallow than a dutch oven. We have the 5 quart dutch oven also and the fryer seems like it is a thicker cast, probably to support the high temperatures of frying. You can really tell when you pick the pot up that it has some weight to it. Everything we have cooked comes out perfect. The size of the pan is great for deep frying so you don't have to waste alot of oil. We have deep fried fish, french fries, onion rings, green tomatoes. And best of all, when you are done, it cleans up easily.
makes the BEST chicken! March 24, 2008 RetroGurl (CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My mom and grandma have used Lodge cast iron cookware forever. My grandma would fry her southern fried chicken in this chicken fryer and I remember the smell & the taste of the chicken! I know part of it was her recipe but the other part she swore was the cast iron. I now use this fryer as well as several other pieces of Lodge and I love them all! They are heavy duty, cooks wonderfully and cleans up in a snap! A little hot water, stiff brush and season it and you have a piece of cookware to literally last you a lifetime. My grandma had Lodge pieces from the 1930's! So you know this is a great quality line of cookware!
cast iron chicken fryer February 25, 2008 Ginger Reno (Orlando, FL) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this as a birthday present for a dear friend. She mentioned her grandmother had one many years ago and wished she had one. So, I bought it so she could have something like what her grandmother used. On the other hand, I have two cast iron skillets and use them ALL the time. Couldn't get by without them.
