Excellent for garage organization September 22, 2007 Dave of KC (Shawnee, KS United States) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I was able to install this product by myself in about 2 hours. The variety of hooks included were useful as starters, and let me determine what additional hooks I would need. I found that I had additional drywall hooks, and enough screws, in the included hardware to make the installation easy. I'll run through the process for installation that I ended up using for your reference: You'll need a level, drill, drill bits, stud sensor, tape measurer, step ladder (if you want a rail at 7'+, pencil or pen, and a hammer and screwdriver. First, survey your garage for where you want the rails to go, and what height you want them at. Things to watch for include where power lines may be run, and where your garage door hardware is (as it can be difficult to put an 8' step ladder in that area, rather than the garage door actually interfering with use.) Once you've figured out where you want them, use the tape measurer to mark off the heights where you want your rails. I wouldn't worry about an inch or two high, although you could run into some problems with hooks like the wheelbarrow hook if you are too low. What I did was then find the center of a stud, drill a tap hole, and attached the first rail (loosely) with one screw. I then levelled the rail, and marked all the "A" and "B" holes. I let the rail down out of the way, and drilled all the "B" holes, and inserted all of the drywall hooks. I used the level again to level the rail over the drywall hooks, and screwed all the screws in tight (starting with the best-lined up ones). I then drilled tap holes for the balance of the "A" holes, and screwed those in. Attach the outside case, and done. For the second + rail, I would slide the outside case partially off the mounted rail, and use that and the level to get the first pilot hole drilled. I tended to use the outside case as an extra hand (although not to support it when I wasn't holding onto it) and was able to easily get all the rails level and even with each other. Again I found that I had more drywall fasteners than I could use. I used one between each stud, and a total of three outside of the studs (I had one hole on the left of a stud, and two on the right of a stud, for each rail. The holes on the rail would only let me hit three studs, rather than four, as the ones on the outside were not far enough out. I have seen some other rails (FastTrack) that did have the holes far enough out to hit 4 studs with the 48" rail.) (My garage has studs that are 16" on center) If you want to get extra screws and use more drywall fasteners, the included screws looked like #10 Pan headed 1.5" wood screws. Overall, the system has been up for about a month now, and has been very useful in getting large things (wheel barrow, bikes, couple of large buckets) up and into the dead space, and the really nice thing about it is the ease of rearranging the hooks if you decide something doesn't work for you. It does look like you can buy the hooks seperately, and mount them directly to studs, so if you just need to hang a wheel barrow, you could go that route, or just get one rail and a couple of hooks to try it out.
Wonderful organizer August 31, 2007 corgicat (Jonesborough, TN United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We truly love this. We installed four of the rails downstairs in our storage area and all my husband's ladders and lawn tool accessories were instantly organized. We put the other two rails in the garage for those things we need in a jiffy and still had plenty of holders for his things. I did buy the add on baseball bat holder since it was the cheapest of the add on holders for my swiffer and other cleaning tools and it works great. The quality is great. It was easy to install in both dry wall in studs in the garage and in the basement through cinder block. We are very happy with this. Shipment through Amazon was fast and you can't beat their free shipping on this product. Who wants to lug it home in their car anyway when UPS will deliver it to your door. It came quickly and in perfect shape. I HIGHLY recommend this product for the low cost to effectively organize your garage. No need to hire expensive garage organizer folk - get this and do it yourself - it looks professional!
Fantastic System for Garage Organization August 14, 2007 P. Ackroyd 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This was the best product ever invented for a garage. I would recommend that the wife watch the three year old for an afternoon when you go to install. It was pretty easy to install and would have been pretty quick except I had to periodically allow to help and entertain that three year old. Once up, the installation of the various hooks that go on the track was easy and they hold a lot of stuff that had been collecting on the garage floor. The only thing I would state is there are some hardware items that I was not sure how it was to be used on the syste. There were no notes in the kit that stated what each item was intended to be used for. Other than that, I finally have my garage back! YEAH!
Great product July 28, 2007 M. Zeller This really helped us organize the garage and get the lawn stuff off the floor. Easy to hang and all parts were included.
Affordable Storage Solution that Works! July 27, 2007 Brian Wynne (Bigfork, MT) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is by far the most economical storage solution. There are better ones, but for the money this can't be beat. The biggest downside is the availability of the product. Extra rails are impossible to find in stores and expensive to ship from rubbermaid directly. The best advice is to get this kit, and if you need more, get another kit! I tried to order 2 extra rails and a basket from rubbermaid, and with shipping it came out to be the same price as this kit was. Overall, a great deal. Sturdy product, gets things off the floor, and easy to install.
