Piece O Junk November 16, 2008 Stuart Siegel Before I bought this I read all of the reviews on Amazon. There was a lot of negative press, like it doesn't froth milk. I thought, How could it not froth milk? Well now I know. I've gone through two of these puppies and I too have not been able to produce froth. The reason is that the rocker switch at the top of the machine malfunctions. You can pound on it all you want but the switch that turns on the steamer just doesn't engage. The first one broke in two days and the second one in two weeks. I'm in the process of returning it to get my money back. Anyone who buys this machine is out of their mind !!!!
The worst product I have ever run accross October 8, 2008 Monica Hesse (Stone Mountain, Georgia United States) Capresso 201.01 FrothXpress Automatic Milk Frother, Black I just got this thing today and was quite disappointed with it. The thing would not siphon milk out of the container and it just poured hot steamed water. I called the support but I doubt the replacing the tube that attaches to the milk container will not make any difference. I wonder if the person who agreed to put a prototype to be put into production had his head in the sand failing to see a poor design this product is.
Works great, as long as it lasts July 6, 2008 Joanne (Milwaukee, WI USA) After maybe 18 months of everyday use the seal in the water reservoir failed. Water leaked onto the parts below and they corroded. I took the unit apart, cleaned the contacts and used it another year. Now it's having trouble again and I'm tired of messing with it, but I'm buying a replacement because it's still the best product I can find. It would be even better without the planned obsolescence -- improve the seal, and, as back up, make those internal parts out of something that water can't damage.
4+ years was a good run June 20, 2008 Jordan Weaver (Tampa, FL USA) Well, we used ours for over 4 years, and it finally died. The unit came on, but the button didn't work any more. I like to see what makes things tick, so I took the machine apart which was no easy task. I don't recommend doing that unless it completely stops working. A couple of the plastic clips had cracked, but the real problem was corrosion on the metal contact parts. For a few cents more, Capresso could have used stainless steel and made this thing really last. We did get good use from it though, using it almost every day and usually a few times per day for 4 years. It can be difficult at times to make work right, but once you learn its quirks it'll work okay for you. We missed not having it immediately, and the coffee doesn't taste as good without it. We will probably buy a replacement since I don't see anything else close for the price.
Great product April 7, 2008 Zak007 (Chicago, IL) When I first got this steamer, I had some problems with it. It would make steam, but the liquid coming out of it was cold. I contacted Capresso and they were fabulous about replacing the machine at no expense to me-they even sent a return UPS label so I would not have to pay return shipping for the defective one. I just used the new one for the first time and it worked rather well. I do have to say that it does take a few tries before one can get the milk/steam/froth ratio (how 'bout that for a professional sounding review?) down, but now it is great. I would highly recommend this product and Capresso as a company. For us non-coffee drinkers, it is nice to be able to steam milk without having to buy an entire coffee maker with steamer.
