3 out of 5 stars Kind of Complicated   August 13, 2008

Doesn't look like it will last forever and it is not the easiest to figure out if you have never used one of it's time at any other time. For the price, though, it was worth it.

2 out of 5 stars Could be nice...   July 16, 2008

If it wasn't so flimsy. The idea is very cool -- the top piece rotates 90 degrees so that the cork gets pulled upwards after you reach the bottom, but the whole thing is poorly constructed so it doesn't always work properly. Its difficult to get the cork out of the opener once you actually get it out of the wine bottle. I bought 4 of them (4 for 3 promotion) and it was $6.xx shipped (amzn prime) though, so I'm not complaining ;)

2 out of 5 stars pike streert cork screw   June 15, 2008

The design is simplicity at its best. However the quality is not as good as one I purchased 7 years ago.

2 out of 5 stars mediocre corkscrew   April 7, 2008

We bought this corkscrew because of the description. It sounded just like a stainless corkscrew we bought years ago - which was superior to anything else. This corkscrew appears to be aluminum instead of stainless. The neck is smaller, so it is more difficult to extract the cork. In addition, the "feel" of the corkscrew is light and inefficient. It probably won't last very long.

1 out of 5 stars In a word: Garbage   February 6, 2008

This corkscrew has major design flaws and is of very cheap construction.

The metal finish is not matte metal, but rather a sort of plastic lacquer which has spots where it did not dry evenly. The connection between the spindle and twist mechanism is very rough and is prone to jamming. Higher-quality machining would have avoided this problem. The connection between the spindle and "cage" is very loose; as a result the screw wiggles and it is very tricky to insert the screw straight into a cork. Worst of all, the cage is too narrow to accommodate a cork. This means once you get the screw into the cork and start pulling the cork up, it runs into the cage's rails and gets stuck and the only way to get the cork out is by pulling it straight up.

I purchased this hoping to replace an old Monopol spindle corkscrew that broke since this looks very similar. Unfortunately, because of the design flaw in the cage and the cheap machining, this is virtually unusable. The pretty photo belies shoddy materials and workmanship.
