5 out of 5 stars Crockpot Rocks!   March 15, 2010
Diana Stewart
I don't understand the reviews of this crockpot that say it is too hot and the food gets done too fast. I don't agree, that is what crockpots are supposed to do. I love this crockpot and the size is great for my large family. Because I ordered the stainless steel model it does get a little hot to touch, however, it is wonderful to clean. I have used it several times and the food was done perfectly and was very tender. I'm so glad I purchased this model.

5 out of 5 stars Good value and great product   March 15, 2010

After about a month of use, we have absolutely no complaints with our new crock pot. It's a great way to cook for a lot of people without a lot of effort - and the results (assuming you have good recipes) are usually pretty good. I'd recommend purchasing a slow cooker cookbook if you're not sure what you're going to make - there are a lot of recipes in them one wouldn't normally consider (lasagna, pizza, etc.).

1 out of 5 stars CRAP!!!!   February 26, 2010
Elizabeth J. Thompson (Dickinson, AL USA)
I got this as a gift. The knob on the top was the first to go; it cracked on the bottom and fell off. I couldn't get a replacement knob, so I used a lid from another Rival crock pot that had melted handles. Guess what? The handles were the next thing to go--one cracked when I picked it up to wash it-thank goodness it was empty! I continued to use it and the second handle cracked off. It had a metal handle under the plastic so I just peeled off the plastic and continued to use it. NOW the stoneware crock cracked from one side to the other and that's the end of that. The stoneware crocks that I have from other crock pots aren't the same size. I wouldn't recommend Rival to anyone. I haven't had a Rival crock pot that didn't have the handles either melt or crack. I didn't have internet before, so I didn't have Amazon and had to buy from the local WalMart. I haven't been able to get any of the parts for the crock pots I have (four!) and Rival says they are all unavailable, even though they are still making the same model!!! How can they continue to make this model but be unable to supply replacement crocks, lid, or handles? This will be the last Rival product that I buy.I had to give this one star, but it doesn't even deserve that.

1 out of 5 stars This Crockpot is a "Crock"   February 17, 2010
P. C. Munyon (Montesano, WA, USA)
I have this same crockpot except its round instead of oval. The same conditions apply; e.g., heats too fast, too hot, etc. In fact, the extreme heat caused the plastic handle on the lid to deteriorate and it virtually disintegrated. Supposed to be dishwasher safe, but I doubt that for the lid now. The Rival people determined it was out of warranty (by only a few months) and would not replace the lid OR provide a replacement handle. They require you to purchase the entire lid for $10. It seems like replacing the handle, which is only attached by a bolt and nut, would be an easy fix and good for customer relations... but they sent several smarmy email replies saying no. That was the last Crockpot I will ever buy. I recommend the new GE model. It has a retractable cord, an anodized aluminum "pot" that is lightweight, the lid snaps tightly in place for transporting it with no spills, and (best for me) its all insulated, so I can virtually pick up the whole thing on the bottom if I need to without fear of burning myself. After the poor performance of the Rival Crockpot, added to the very poor response from their company, I recommend stay away from the Crockpot brand.

1 out of 5 stars Listen to all the reports AVOID- IT JUST BOILS EVERYTHING ON LOW   February 17, 2010

Listen to all the reports AVOID- IT JUST BOILS EVERYTHING ON LOW
The was a replacement for the Same unit.... Please listen to all of the other reviews, They have done the work for you.

Had some hesitation with this unit, it's sat around unopened for about a month. Should have listened to my gut instincts and All the reviews.
This was a replacement for one that broke. The handle disintegrated and the store replaced it with same.

One reviewer said it best " DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY' and another "Boils, Burns, & Sticks" I could go on, but I'm sure you get the idea.

I started a Pot Roast last night and knew with in minutes.... This was a bad idea. The smell, others have eluded to is nauseating !!!!
Of course one understands a first time use... But the chemical smell says only one thing...... This is the wrong unit to buy!!
After getting by the smell and adding all of the great ingredients, setting it on low... WITHIN one hour the dam thing was boiling....

Trust me when I tell ya......THIS IS A PIECE OF JUNK....... and I'm being kind.

Buy the way, I had two Crock Pots going at the same time. The other is a Rival, 5 qt round unit i've had for years. Two units cooking the same ingredients, started simutainisly.
This morning the Rival is looking good, smells great and tastes Fantastic..
The Crock Pot is totally over cooked or should I say "just boiled".

In all fairness. My old unit made some fantastic Italian Roast Pork. Off the chart, by any standard... But it did cook too fast. I just adjusted my times.

This JUST BOILS EVERYTHING AND WHO NEEDS THAT.... ALL WE WANT IS A SLOW COOKER That's why we are here, we love good food.
and this unit ain't going to give that.
Hope I was helpful
