5 out of 5 stars love my cuisinart   July 14, 2010

I researched stand mixers for a few months, checking prices, what difference motor power would make, bowl sizes, etc. , along with peoples' reviews. I had intended to get a Kitchenaid because my Nana always swore by hers, but Kitchenaid does not seem to pack the punch it used to. There were many people unhappy with theirs, and some received help from the company, and some did not seem to, so I started thinking I didn't want to spend a couple hundred more on a name when the Cuisinart had plenty of happy reviews, and seemed to be able to handle everything I require in a mixer. I am NOT a professional baker, but do get a little crazy with the baking over the holidays.

So far I have mixed crab cakes, and baked 2 cakes. I LOVE having the timer to set, adjust speed, and off it goes, all alone, to turn itself off when done. It stays put while running, is not too heavy, and Not even very loud, and the beater and bowl BOTH go in the dishwasher. I am pleased. Hope you are too.

I love this mixer! It makes quick work of pizza dough. And it is nice-looking to boot!

5 out of 5 stars Heavy duty but QUIET!   July 3, 2010

This is a fabulous mixer! Being a serious cook who also bakes all of our family's bread, I have been wanting a large stand mixer for several years. I tried both the Kitchenaid Pro and Kitchenaid Artisan models but took them back to the stores when I found they were too noisy to let me stay in the kitchen while they were running. After reading the reviews on this Cuisinart, I decided to take one more chance. Several people said this machine was quiet and I am SO relieved to find that it actually is! Despite its great ability to handle heavy bread doughs and large batches of cookies, even when on high speed this Cuisinart is a joy to be around. Thank you, thank you, Cuisinart! This is a very steady machine that should give years of good service and the mixing blade, whisk and dough hook all clean easily in the dishwasher. The height of the machine makes it easy to fit beneath most upper kitchen cabinets, so storage on the counter top is no problem. Bear in mind that this is a heavy appliance, so you'll likely want to find a convenient spot for it before you purchase. It's certainly attractive enough to be on display in any working kitchen. The mixing blade, whisk and dough hook can all be stored in the beautiful stainless steel bowl under the clear splash guard cover.

The only other advice I can add to previous positive reviews is to watch for rebates (currently a free food processor attachment) listed in the Amazon information; I almost missed seeing that link ("Rebate forms for recent purchases," located just beneath the price.) And, despite what the sales video says, this mixer no longer comes with a spatula, but experienced bakers will likely have plenty of those on hand.

If you're still looking for a great stand mixer, you simply cannot go wrong with this one! Enjoy, enjoy. I know that I certainly will!

2 out of 5 stars Works well, but shakes and "walks" around the counter. Updated   July 1, 2010

Bought this at a national retailer for a SUPER DUPER price. It mixes, kneads and whips like a champ. No complaints about how it works. The BIG BIG issue is that it shakes and walks across the counter. It does not really matter what you do with it, although it is worse with a heavier load such as a bread dough. The machine is top heavy and the base appears to be made of cast aluminum while the motor and gear set are attached to the upper portion of the machine. The top starts to oscillate back and forth when the machine is on which causes the base to vibrate and loose contact with counter. Putting a damp towel under it helps to keep it in place, but I never had to do that with any of the Kitchenaid/ hobart machines I've used before. I called Cuisinart about this issue and the kindly explained that I must be using it wrong. So don't expect great customer service with this unit either.

On the plus side, the timer is nice. It stops the machine when time elapses. and the mixer gradually gains speed even it you start it at full speed. This stops a fluff of ingredients from flying out of the bowl. I also like that the shape of the bowl.

If the price wasn't so low i would have brought this back. If you can get it cheap its worth it, if not get the Kitchenaid.

In review...

The GOOD:
-gradually steps up speed
- mixes, whips and kneads excellently
- bowl is a nice shape and size for scraping etc
-timer stops machine when time is up

THE VERY VERY BAD:
- Shakes , moves around counter top etc
- base seems to light to handle weight of motor etc
- accessories are expensive and kind of silly (eg: no pasta roller, only an extruder. it's pasta not play-dough!!)
- Awful customer service.
- Warranty is useless, mail in service only and user pays shipping both ways. This thing is huge and would cost a fortune to ship.

UPDATE:

After talking to Cuisinart customer service, and having them inform me that I am not using it properly. I decided to contact Cuisinart again and try for an RMA replacement. They insisted that they would do that for any product they sell other than a Stand Mixer or microwave oven. Convenient!! However if i am willing to pay shipping to New Jersey from Michigan both ways (an estimated $80.00 with insurance) they will have a technician look at it. I only paid $129.00. Needless to say I took this unit back as it nearly walked of my counter last week.

I have never had a stand mixer so decided it was time to treat myself to one. I did lots of research and looked at reviews of the various brands and models and decided on the Cuisinart and I am so happy with it. My first project was a Crumb Cake and it turned out great - the batter was fluffy and the cake was airy and light, Then I started making breads and I am "hooked". I used to have a bread machine (it broke and I didn't replace it) and although it was really easy (just put everything in and walk away), using the dough hook with the mixer is almost as easy since the mixer does all the kneading - and the timer feature is great. I have taken many of my favorite bread machine recipes and adapted them for the mixer and they have all turned out perfectly. We now have fresh bread every week.
I have tried several of the recipes that came with it and also viewed the CD ROM with video of how to prepare them - all very well done and professional. This is the easiest machine to use and I don't know why I waited so long to get one.
