Absolutely a Must-Have for the Artisan Baker! April 19, 2008 delicateflower152 (Texas) 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
After much research, I purchased the Viking 7-qt. mixer 2 1/2 years ago. It was well made - all metal parts; customer service from the company was excellent - they actually answered questions before I purchased; and it was powerful enough to handle heavy doughs. I intended to use it for making artisan breads at home - bakery loaves, at the time, were running over $4.50. I decided I could make the bread more economically at home. After purchasing the mixer and numerous books, and after 2 1/2 years, I finally have amortized the cost of a loaf of homebaked bread to single digits. That being said, I am thrilled with the performance and durability of my Viking mixer. It performs in a workmanlike manner, handling even bagel dough made with high gluten flour with ease. It does not bog down or struggle to mix even the heaviest doughs. My only warning to those considering purchasing this mixer is that it is noisy. Since I have nothing to compare it with, this may be a standard for the 1000 watt mixer. If you are serious about home-baking, don't let this criticism scare you away from the best mixer made.
Used by professional and commercial kitchens for a reason. April 16, 2008 SugarCrafter 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
A motor this size is going to mix anything! Everything I have mixed in the Viking so far has been blended to perfection. After working at one of the best reviewed bakeries as a pastry chef, I knew I would need one of these for my home. The motor is more noticeable at home than in the bakery, but I don't mix all day long and it doesn't wake my daughter. I would recommend this mixer to anyone who takes pride in what comes out of their kitchen, whether for commercial purposes or serving friends and family.

This is a great product. It has the capacity and power to mix enough dough for double loaves, and the stand mixer design allows the head to be tilted back out of the way for easy access to the mixing bowl.
I Love it! December 11, 2007 Kacey (Oakland, CA) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
I love my stand mixer. It can make bread in minutes, cookies or cakes are a breeze, whipping cream or egg whites couldn't be easier! For the previous reviewer who didn't like it, what did you expect? A motor that size is not going to be silent. There are instructions in the owner's manual on how to adjust the beaters so that they reach the bottom of the bowl. Difficulty scraping, I don't have a problem with it, but pretty much all stand mixers have the same "problem". All in all a great product, and I love that it can take a blender attachment, too.
Not worth a dime May 4, 2007 Zelda Deutsch (NJ, USA) 8 out of 14 found this review helpful
This mixer is definitely the worst purchase I ever made. I have absolutely no use out of it. When I first got it, it groaned and moaned, even when trying to mix cake batter or soft cookie dough. I sent it to get repaired, thinking that something was wrong with it. Well, I just finished kneading bread dough by hand because the "fixed" machine just couldn't handle it. I was a bit unsure about getting the machine, because I had read mixed reviews about it, some great, some horrible. I figured the bad reviews must be from people who don't have much experience with mixers. I was wrong. This mixer is a bad product. Viking must be getting lots of complaints about it. When I called for assistance, they immediately had me call an outside repair company. I'll have to call Viking again and somehow resolve this. **I have since contacted Viking and they were unwilling to fix it in any way. Basically, this machine has been $599 in the garbage can.
