Product Description
Hearty stews. Rib-sticking chilis. Tender pot roasts. The real secret is a long, slow simmer at a constant temperature, and no appliance does this better than the slow cooker. If your old slow cooker recipes disappointed you, throw them away! The Slow Cooker Ready and Waiting Cookbook is for people who love good food! Rick Rodgers has adapted an eclectic array of American and ethnic dishes for the slow cooker. They're all here: fancy fare (Farmer's Market Lobster and Corn Chowder, Sweet and Sour Brisket, Erna's Sauerbraten), everyday favorites (Ground Beef Chili with Cornmeal Dumplings and Herbed Tomato Sauce with Parmesan Meatballs), side dishes (Potatoes Euphoria, Smothered Green Beans, Sugarbush Beans) -- even desserts (Strawberry-Strawberry Cheesecake, Bourbon Bread Pudding, and Lemon-Raspberry Pudding Cake). Ideal for entertaining, the slow cooker keeps crowd-pleasing dips and holiday punches warm from the beginning of the party to when the last guest leaves. A special section explains how to choose the right-size slow cooker for your needs, how to adapt a favorite recipe, and what can (and can't) be prepared in a slow cooker.

"Meals That Cook Themselves?"...No. Meals to DIE for? Yes! August 28, 2008 Bruce M. Mcenroe (Lawrence, KS) This book really got me excited about using my new slow cooker! True, the meals don't exactly "cook themselves," but boy, are they fantastic! Rick Rodgers really knows his stuff! His comments are both entertaining and insightful, and his recipes are superb. Thanks to Rick, I have come to view my slow cooker not so much as a time-saving device, but as more of a general cooking appliance, and a great one. If you want to get the absolute best possible results from your slow cooker, this book is a MUST!
Best slow cooker cookbook out there! October 25, 2007 magickreader (Kingston, NY USA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
OK, I can't cook.I'm successful at many things. Cooking is NOT one of them.I've tried everything, including the grill. Did you know sausages can burst into flames like Yule logs, and continue burning on the plate? My husband took pictures.I discovered the crockpot. And cookbooks that called for cream of mushroom soup as a main ingrediant. This cookbook arrived yesterday. I examined it. Mr. Rodgers made the recipes sound doable. I decided to try the beef bourguinnone. The prep time took 45 munites. I needed a sweatband by the time I was done. I followed his instructions religiously. I handled a whisk! I also made the garlic mashed potatoes with carrots. The end result was incredible. My husband almost cried. My son asked who I had gotten to deliver the food. Wiseguy. I felt euphoric!! So, to anyone who says these recipes take more time, I say.. WHO CARES!! The meal was to die for, and best of all... I MADE IT!!! THANKS MR. Rodgers! I'm on a roll. My whole family thanks you. Seriously. You have no idea.
The How to Stretch Your Food Budget Book October 18, 2007 Obi-Wan (USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This book is wonderful! This book gives excellent instructions. The Good Man/Woman's Chicken is so easy and the ingredients are so cheap. That meal cost me $2.18 to buy the chicken and it lasted me four days! Now that is economy! When the food budget is tight slow cooker cooking is a Godsend! I would also recommend getting the OXO fat separator with this cookbook! Skimming fat has been a chore for me.
Best Slow Cooker to Date For Me, Possibly You April 17, 2007 rodboomboom (Dearborn, Michigan United States) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
Why is this the best to date for me on slow cooking? Because he adds some outstanding extras that others don't: browning, broiling, sauteeing meats first; skimming fat and reducing sauces at end, etc. Also, his variety and sophistication of recipes is outstanding for my tastes. Feast on likes of: Short Ribs with Garden Patch Horseradish Sauce; Pork, Port and Chestnut Ragout; Chicken, Tomato and Tortilla Soup; Erna's Sauerbraten; Chicken with Mushrooms and Artichokes in Red Wine Soup; Turkey Breast Saltimbocca; Pear and Hazelnut Brown Betty. 160 delectable offerings with the normal wide menu offering from Appetizers to Desserts. Only downer is no color photos, but this tends to drive the purchase price down which is nice. A keeper for the slow cooker who wants to go a step up in his offerings.
Amazing! March 10, 2007 L. Franchot 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
