Product Description The secret to delicious, flavorful coffee is locked within the bean. Coffee that's not freshly ground may be tasty but time erodes the complexities and nuances of the distinct flavors. That's why serious coffee drinkers grind the beans directly before brewing. Be it for American Coffee or Espresso or French Press, the Krups GVX1-14 uses superior burr grinding known for releasing all those properties that help make the coffee bean unique. What you gain is a more delicious coffee. Frankly, isn't that what it's all about? Appreciate your coffee more with this burr grinder from Krups. Removable ground coffee container is dishwasher safe (top rack, please) Rubber feet keep grinder firmly in place Anti-static coffee container with lid holds up to 8 ounces of ground coffee for a 12-cup pot of coffee Blue illuminated On/Off Airtight bean hopper keeps beans fresh Special safety features - Will not operate unless lid to bean hopper and coffee container are in place
Amazon.com Review This smartly designed, finely tunable burr coffee grinder from Krups is built on the premise that good coffee starts with the freshest, most appropriate grind. Equipped with an expert-quality burr milling system, the machine turns out very consistent grounds with minimal heat for the best-tasting coffee. Its coarseness dial offers 17 distinct settings to create precisely the right grind for the occasion, brewing method, and kind of bean. In addition, the quantity dial, ranging from 2 to 12 cups, lets you grind no more coffee than you need, which helps preserve fresh aroma and flavor. Structurally handsome and easy to use, the grinder features a large transparent bean hopper with a clearly marked "max" line. The grounds container, also transparent, is lidded and removable for tidy transport to the espresso machine or French press. Simple maintenance is also a boon here--the burr removes for easy cleanup and Krups includes a cleaning brush for the hopper. Shiny and matte black with silver accents, the grinder looks dashing on the countertop without drawing excess attention to itself. It stands 10-1/2 by 4-3/4 by 5-3/4 inches and carries a one-year warranty. --Emily Bedard

Worked -- for a while September 25, 2008 Joanie (San Francisco) I bought this grinder a little over a year ago when my previous grinder which I had used for over 15 years started acting funny. What a disappointment! I had always thought of Krups as a good brand overall. First it stopped grinding fine enough and it was on the finest setting and then about a month later it just stopped. So I worked on the old one some and got it back working for now. This was a bad choice.
No idea why this gets low reviews September 13, 2008 Tomas I received this grinder as a present, around two years ago. And I used it in the beginning for a french press with roasted beans from a shop, then i started with a stovetop espresso machine (the bodum mocha, GREAT coffee maker). That requires a finer grind, then I also got the Bodum El Santos (great for making lots of coffee, but a steep learning curve). That needed a much rougher grind. I also started roasting my own beans, and that is what I use exclusively. In all this time, using this grinder somewhere around 10 times a week, for years, it has never ever jammed. So I am really unsure how people can get it to jam at all. It is relatively quiet, very reliable, nice design. The only thing that I could say is that the blue LED power light is pretty bright. It's also very easy to clean too, the entire grinder assembly opens up so you can clean inside it. I think it's great!
Great little machine September 10, 2008 J. jen (Denver, CO) Great little machine. It grinds fine enough for Turkish coffee. I never use the higher settings. Yes, it does jam sometimes and makes a hideous noise when doing so, but I have found just giving it a good whack dislodges the offending bean and it then continues on its merry way. It has never overheated or forced me to take it apart to unjam. I will say that keeping it clean is a VERY good idea. Once a month, I put in a cup of uncooked RICE and grind those grains up-- it cleans it beyootifully!
More Frustrating Than It's Worth September 8, 2008 eddiev97215 (pdx, usa) As mentioned in other reviews, this machine has frequent hopper jams which is a fundamental design flaw. I've owned, and do own, other Krups products which have performed well- this is definitely below par.
beans won't continuously fall to grind- wished I had not purchased September 7, 2008 K. O'brien (Portland, OR) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We are about ready to toss this one into the garbage. The beans don't fall into the grinder. I have to constantly shake it to get it to work. At first this would happen sparingly, but it's progressively worse after only a few months. For the price we paid, I'm surprised and disappointed by the quality of this grinder. We'll be looking for a new one that isn't this model.
